Bring back Kovy, Eller would benefit of the experience, like others too. With Eller on a third line it would'nt hurt at all, even though he use to play once every three games, maybe that would change. It's only a suggestion

...I think it's safe to say he's no longer an NHL caliber player. I'd be interested to see him go into coaching.
This. If Kovalev wanted to come back and share some of his training regimen (he was apparently a fitness nut - there's a story about Keenan forcing him to take a two minute shift because Kovy had a habit of taking long shifts and Kovy came back to the bench not even looking winded) and his stick handling skills and the team could find a place for him (maybe an assistant coach in Hamilton and an associate trainer in Montreal) I think it'd be a great thing to try. Imagine Pacioretty or Subban with Kovalev's stick handling skills....

Kovalev had a bad year in the KHL because he was recovering from an injury and couldn't get his beat going starting mid-season. It is probable he'd do better if he started at the same time as everybody.

Ya kovalev hasn't been a good player for a few years, 5 is obviously a bit of a slight exaggeration
He's obviously not the same player and he doesn't have the legs anymore...you can stickhandle around an army but if players can just catch back up on the backcheck then whats the point? He's done as an NHLer but he can definitely be an asset to any organization given his fitness levels and awkward but creative practice/drills
If he would agree to strictly specialise in being a powerplay/shootout specialist, I'd give him a year contract for $1M or something.
We had a 5-12 shootout record last season, we need major help in that department. Switch that around to 12-5 and we'd have been 5 to 8 spots higher in the Eastern standings.

For those wanting Kovalev back, I would suggest a ct scan to determine if a tumor is pressing on the cognitive center of your brain.
PP and shootout specialist give him a tryout and if he can skate and keep up 1 year 1 mil DO IT.
With the amount of one goal games we lost and the shootout losses, turn our PP to 15th and shootout record to average and we were in the playoffs. He's a big part of the solution to our two biggest weaknesses. Markov to Kovy cross ice pass baby.
