I've wanted to see Mike Knuble in a Habs jersey forever now

Knuble would have been nice, but he's finished.

Again, the only players we will be able to sign in UFA:

- Badly overpaid
- too old
- too inconstant
- recovering from injury

How about we stop being overly picky?

The moral of all 8 of these threads is: July sucks if you're a hockey fan.

He played really well in that one late season game against the Leafs, I think it was his first in the league?

Why not in the AHL somewere? He's certainly not that bad, the Irish league must have a terrible level of play.

Perhaps he wants to feel like Mario Lemieux and score 2 goals a game like Dagenais is doing in the FHL.

Technically they play in the British league (EIHL) to be really picky.

Will probably catch him play a few games in Coventry next season.

He probably makes good money, gets everything paid for and gets to live abroad. I'm sure it'll be a great experience for him.

I'm surprised to read Sykora's name in some posts. The guy was in the stands during the most crucial playoffs games last year, in favor of a rookie. And one more year won't make him better; quite the opposite, actually.

Thats a good point. Considering his chances of going back to the NHL are close to zero he might has well enjoy his time as a professional hockey player instead of grinding in the AHL.

With Sundin we could have won a cup.

Not the same thing with Doan.

Btw I'm looking at the our salary payroll on Capgeek....

We are sitting with $6,302,024 according to them....
but they have Louis Leblanc in for $1,170,000....

You send him to the minors....you are left with....$7,472,024

If Molson doesn't want to waste money by sending Gomez to the minors than another way we could sign both Subban and Doan would be to......

Somehow get rid of Bourque's contract of $3,333,333 and Weber's $850,000 (either send them both down to the minors or see if they could be traded for picks or prospects to teams in need of salary cap)...
That would leave us with $11,455,357

If Doan were to sign for 2 years @ 7 million per year....

That would leave us with $4,455,357 to sign Subban leaving us with no cap space.....

just thought it would be interesting to see another way of signing Doan and Subban without getting rid of Gomez

Bourque is better than Gomez so it makes little sense. Anyways Doan won't sign here.

Ya, and Bourque+Weber's contracts pretty much equate Gomez's.
Molson would only be saving about a million dollars. Not really worth it.
Bourque on a third line versus weaker opponents could be useful.
Gomez I just don't see where he fits. There's no way I want him as a center over Plekanec-DD-Eller. He has no business being a 4th liner center either, and isn't too good as a winger. Really, I just don't see him fit anywhere. If he still is here by camp, he better really step it up.

How about signing Jim Vandermeer?

How about signing Jim Vandermeer....I know we have a lot of defenseman signed but ...1 year contract ...helps with the toughness issue on defense... A guy who can clear the net. I know we signed bouillon but we need more toughness on D....I'm sure you can sign him to a 1 year contract at a very cheap price. What you think...

Vandermeer didn't really kill penalties last season for the Sharks (24 seconds per game, 7th on the team among D), which is really where clearing the net comes in handy. I expect Emelin to get some more time on that unit this season.

I wouldn't mind assuming we moved another D. The D needs some more sandpaper and while vandermeer is not really the top 4 shutdown D we need. He's a stopgap at best. I think it's really a matter of him vs boullion and I think boullion brings more to the table.
