Last year was the best chance he had to get a regular spot since he was competing with two rookies (Emelin&Diaz) and two ****** vets (Kaberle and Campoli). Yet he failed to impress anyone.
Unless he really does get much better he won't get a better chance elsewere. He looked fairly promising not too long ago, shame that he never actually broke out.

It's been cooked in my eyes. Diaz is better at everything.
I still think he'll have a very solid career, we had too many soft similar defenseman last year which led to him struggling. Definitely could use a change of scenery and with confidence he'll be a very solid PP specialist.

I totally agree but there are still some ardent supporters who'll say that he wasn't so bad and that he's our best PP threat - if his atrocious play continues onto next season then we won't have any defenders (other than his ma and pa, of course).
I don't wish him harm but he was bad and we're not at a point where we can just play bad players for the hell of it - we're the Montreal Canadiens and we just finished dead last in the conference, enough mediocrity.
For sure he wants to play but I think it wouldn't be in the team interest to trade him. Even tough he had hard times last year he showed potential especially in the first 20 games or so where he played about 20 min/g.
Plus, it seems like swiss players develop late in their career (Diaz and Streit).
He is only 23 years old and already as over 100 games in the NHL, not bad at all.

That's a terrible comparaison. Weber is a much better skater than MAB, and he rarely get catch out of position because of a open-ice hit attempt. He is less physical, he's more of a passer than a shooter on the PP, etc.

Allow me to elaborate:
Weber is not very good defensively, but he is better than MAB. However, he is much worse offensively than MAB since he has a good shot, but is not a great passer either. Therefore, slightly better defensively than MAB and worse offensively than MAB.
Once the inevitable injuries happen, and the Habs often have 2, 3, or 4 simultaneous injuries on defense, he'll get another chance.
He has the potential to be a good PP specialist as he has a good shot, which is something our system needs.
IMO he should be allowed to start in Hamilton, and if he does well, he should be called up once we need injury replacements.
He's young. Young players sometimes screw up or take longer to develop. See Ron Hainsey, Francois Beauchemin and Ryan McDonagh.
He would have to go trough waivers in order to be sent to the AHL. If he's not claims, it means we couldn't have traded him. If he's claimed then we'll have lost him for nothing.
I'm puzzled you mentionned Ryan McDonagh. He was drafted the same year as Weber yet he's now a top pairing defensemen. McDonagh might have been in the NHL and certainly AHL earlier if he didn't opt to stay this long at Uni since he ended up becaming a NHL regular in his first pro season. A far cry from Beauchemin or Hainsey who became regulars in their mid 20ies after getting waived.
Weber could become a decent defensemen down the road but I'm not sure we can afford to be patient with him with so many good young defensemen coming up. With Ellis, Beaulieu, Tinordi and another waive of good prospects in Dietz and Thrower coming after them there won't be place left for him.

I agree. He's too average defensively to face strong opponents yet not strong enough offensively to drive our powerplay. It would really help him if he were a better skater. A defensemen of his size needs to be fast or utterly fearless (see Gorges). He's neither.

Victim of our redundent defense i guess. Also playing him as a forward sometimes on the fourth line was not the right option for his developement. All i can say is come to camp and win yourself a spot kido.
