A Deal Centered Around Zajac/Bobby Ryan

If Zajac makes it clear that he will not re-sign with NJD

What would the Devils need to add onto Travis Zajac to land Bobby Ryan ??

Start with Henrique, not an upcoming FA.

Zajac will be a UFA after this season, so that diminishes his value quite a bit.

Meanwhile, Ryan is locked up for what, 4 more years at a reasonable cap-hit?

trading for Bobby Ryan for what his value is perceived as is just not feasible for NJ

So Anaheim can lose their top four forwards in one year? Where do I sign?

The Ducks have set the bar for Ryan at an unfathomable level, and they have good reason. The Devils just don't have the pieces to get a deal done.

And add a lot. I think Anaheim would want Larsson +.

no way can we afford to trade zajac for anything short of an even better center (which won't happen). not to mention anaheim wants way too much for ryan for the devils to be able to afford him.

the devils just don't have what it takes to land a big option like ryan. we can't trade picks because we still have to give one up anyway, we can't trade forwards because we are already shaky on forward depth to begin with, and we can't trade forward prospects because we don't have any. the only tradeable assets we have are our glut of d-men and d-prospects. that's why we would need to target a team that could use help on the back end both now and in the future if we are to add a forward.

Why would the Devils add their most valuable trade piece for a disgruntled forward? Everyone and their mother knows that Bobby Ryan wants out which means your position of strength is weakened somewhat.

Yeah that's nice, to bad he's signed for 3 more years and doesn't have a NTC Anaheims not giving away Ryan for scraps

I understand Ryan is a better player, but won't this cause a huge problem at center for nj ?

Yeah having a guy dog it on your team is definitely a much better option. I didn't say that he was being given up for scraps but right now he does not equal Larsson.

Yep, all the sudden Adam Henrique is the Devils best option at center. Not very appealing.

Ryan is easily worth more than Larsson right now. It just makes no sense for New Jersey to move him at this point in his career. They would be selling low, on a prospect they have every reason to be patient with.

Edit: And there is nothing to suggest Ryan would "dog it" in Anaheim. There is plenty of evidence to suggest he is excited to be a part of the team this season. His dissatisfaction is with the trade rumors, and a perceived lack of security with the team.
