Big no thank you. His loafing gets worse with age. And he's the last person you want in a mentor role.

Ya kovalev hasn't been a good player for a few years, 5 is obviously a bit of a slight exaggeration

He's obviously not the same player and he doesn't have the legs anymore...you can stickhandle around an army but if players can just catch back up on the backcheck then whats the point? He's done as an NHLer but he can definitely be an asset to any organization given his fitness levels and awkward but creative practice/drills
perhaps a slight exaggeration, but not all that far from the truth

Can't wait for fans to look at the future instead of living in the past, especially when it comes to players on the team.

The ship has sailed. He's done as a hockey player...at least in the NHL. The only way he's coming back is as a scout.

Bring back Kovy, Eller would benefit of the experience, like others too. With Eller on a third line it would'nt hurt at all, even though he use to play once every three games, maybe that would change. It's only a suggestion

Let's bring back Craig Rivet while we're at it. It's time to move on. I'd rather give the spot to prospects.

Kovalev resuscitated Hockey in Montreal at the time, he brought excitement and flair to the game. I believe his last two seasons with the Habs he finish best scorer with 84 and 65 pts. Only in Montreal, we are about to let PK go if this keeps up! Imagine if at the time he played with Cammy, Gomez, Gionta, Markov, PK, AK46, Sergei,Plek, MABergeron and a young Max P

OKAY...people PLEASE read Bergiven's lips.... he wants players with "character", team players who play for the TEAM.

No "I need the GM to take a walk and hold my hand because I am a headcase" Kovalev, No "I like to party til 2:00 AM" before a playoff game" Kostitsyn.

All headcases are leaving the team. It boggles my mind that these people who like Kovy and AK are fine when these so called professionals show up one out of every five or six games and completely dissappear for weeks at a time.

For god's sake.... look forward.... not backwards, because we haven't had many good years lately.

What would be the point of bringing Kovy back? Really, how do people come up with these ideas..

Anyways Gainey offered a contract to him and Gionta. Gionta agreed pretty fast, Gainey withdrew his offer to Kovy. Yeah Kovy's to blame there...
Actually Gainey offered the money to Kovalev FIRST and he wanted some time to "think about it" then Gainey saw players being signed quickly on Free Agent day and offered the money to Gionta and when Kovalev's agent called back, it was too late!

I would keep Gionta anyday over Kovalev.

All I am saying is I don't buy that he wanted to stay here and did not want to leave.
Sure he would have liked to stay but only if the money and term were right.
I have turned down many jobs offering more money because I like what I do.
Now of course they were not offering 5-8x more money but if he loved Montreal, he is already a millionaire many times over so he could have sucked it up and stayed. Not to mention he would get a lot more endorsements in Montreal vs Ottawa.

I'm not sure his 1 goal in 22 games, in the KHL mind you, would lend any real support to your assessment.

Every month we get this thread and every time it's shot down as ridiculously stupid.

He's getting older every time, and his numbers are terrible even in the KHL. There is no reason for us to waste a spot for rookie on a veteran that may not even play hockey next year.

This is no time for sentimentality. Kovalev couldn't begin to reproduce what he did in his best years. I woudn't want to have him subjected to boos and hisses.
