You have place a lower value on 7 million dollars than I do.

Semin's $7M doesn't put the Hurricanes even near the cap. And he is a flashy player who can gain serious cash from fans so it may be a good investment.

Is it your money? Why do you care? As others have mentioned this has 0 cap implications.

He had 22pts in his first 21 playoff games. Just recently has he had some struggles.

This is great deal for Canes. Who cares what the price was, it's only one year deal. If they can afford it, it's great deal(why wouldn't they afford it, duh). One of the best UFA signings imo.

Exactly. Even if he does nothing, it's no risk. They had to get to the floor, and he has the skill to lead the team in goals and points. It's not like it's going to hinder other moves because it takes them to the cap.

This will be one of the better signings this summer, if not the best.

One year deals = ZERO risk unless they take you to the max cap

People are trying to give reasons as to why this was bad. There isn't

I think a lot of fans are upset their GM, didn't take a "RISK" on a guy who at worst, will probably score 30, and with the potential to score 50.

i am going to watch parise, doan, semin very closely this year, my prediction:

semin
parise

doan

also i would rate their contracts just like that even doan didnt signed yet, i am sure some gm will pay crazy money for his leadership.

This is where I'm at. It's a good signing for the Canes because the potential for landing an elite goal scorer is there, but with very little risk involved.

The $7 million salary is only an issue if it hurts the Canes' ability to improve in other areas, but they seem to have enough cap space that it's a non-issue. And the term is only 1 year, so even if Semin does stink (that just sounds bad), they let him walk at the end of the year with no long term consequences.

This just put us above the Cap floor. It really was a good deal for us, Semin was the 2nd best free agent forward available next to Parise.

This signing put us over the floor by 2m. We're fine on the cap front.

I love one and two year contracts, it keeps players honest. If you want to play another year then you have to perform.
