Being that I think we are at 48 contracts (50 limit) if we could buy out a few guys then we could look at signing guys like Bobby Butler and Matt Gilroy to 2 way deals and also some of the free agents the Flames invited to the development camp.
Three players I would buy out would be Carter Bancks, Gaelan Patterson and Bryan Cameron.
You buyout 2/3rds of their contract then take that amount and cut it in half for twice as many years as you bought out to figure out the cap hit.
Rough math has it costing the Flames around $500,000 against the cap for next 2 years.
Given how many players we invited to camp, I'd say it's a possible course of action if we're in a bind. But to answer your question, I don't know the rules. Sorry
The benefits are so low though. Howmuch capspace are you really going to save that way? Plus I think both Butler and Gilroy are no longer waiver exempt so they would have to pass waivers.
Not to mention from an organizational standpoint they don't want to waste money, the Flames board has shown before they rather lose picks or assets rather than real dollars.

This. If it involves spending money that we don't need to, it won't happen.
How about we don't sign so many AHL pluggers to contracts? We should start getting some good youth injected into the Heat lineup this year, but we still have too many vets.

Ink the idea is to make a better AHL team so it's a better learning environment for prospects.

Feaster and Ward are high on Bancks, they like his determination and energy. I don't know much about Patterson, but two contracts that I'm sure Feaster would like to free up are Wahl and Cameron. Both players were cut from the Heat last season.
