Kings Sign Tanner Pearson

http://kings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=639140
Quote:
LOS ANGELES – The 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Tanner Pearson, selected by the Kings in the first-round (30th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry level contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Pearson, 19 (turns 20 on August 10), has played the last two seasons with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League. He was named to the OHL Second All-Star Team at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season after recording 91 points (37-54=91), 37 penalty minutes and a plus-21 rating in 60 regular season games. Pearson led Barrie in goals, assists and points this past season, while tying for the team lead in plus-minus. His 91 points ranked third overall in the OHL, while his 54 assists ranked fifth.

The 6-0, 198-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario, had 42 points (15-27=42) and 35 penalty minutes for Barrie during the 2010-11 season. His 42 points ranked sixth on the club that year.

Pearson spent three seasons with the Waterloo Siskins of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (Ontario-Junior B) before debuting with Barrie in the fall of 2010. He scored 29 goals and 70 points (29-41=70) with Waterloo during the 2009-10 regular season.

Internationally, Pearson represented Team Canada at the 2012 World Junior Championships, where he recorded six points (1-5=6) in six games, helping Canada capture the bronze medal. He also represented Canada and the OHL at the 2011 Super Series that featured Canadian Hockey League (CHL) All-Stars competing against the Russian National Junior Team as part of a six-game series. Pearson helped the CHL win the Super Series as he recorded two goals in two games while skating with Team OHL. The Canadians won the series with a record of 3-2-1 and 10 points.

This virtually guarantees he will be in the AHL next year.

Not a surprise at all really. Barring a really bad camp, he'll be in Manchester in the fall. I think he'll get a cup of coffee next season in the NHL too. True late bloomer, but if he continues his rapid rise and doesn't let the recent fame get to his head he'll be a full-time NHLer in a year.

Considering we are the defending cup champions, I think that he is arguably the most likely player to be traded as well in an effort to repeat, outside of Bernier of course. He'll hold a lot of value at the trade deadline. I hope we don't deal him though.

Good deal. Can't wait to see him in training camp. Impressive that this is the top news article on TSN too, typically Kings news goes right to the side column, never one of the featured three articles.

And you left off Cliche, who was one of our best scorers. I'm expecting a huge year out of Vey. I also expect ND to have a nice bounce back year and I think Weal could be a sleeper.

And Loktionov. He doesn't have to clear waivers yet, correct?

I think we are expecting a lot to think Hickey will clear waivers. He might, but I'd be shocked if someone didn't take a chance on him, even if just due to his draft status.

Correct, he was drafted out of the CHL and won't turn 20 before the December 31, 2012 cutoff for CHL players, so it's likely back to Juniors for him.

You're missing Cliche and possibly one of Nolan or Loktionov on the forwards and also Bodnarchuk on D. So probably no to Hill unless he is as a 7 d-man.

An odd thing I noticed while tracking down the spelling of Bodnarchuk, Corey Elkins is listed on the Kings active roster, then again Parse is still as well... Think it means he'll be back in camp this year?

Could always get greedy and win all the Cups. Both Stanley and the Calder (not that one, the other one... The AHL one!)

Elkins signed with the Ducks.

Still a possibility that Muzzin and/or Hickey could be picked up on waivers (unless the CBA changes the rules).

I think that Dean is hoping that Hickey or Muzzin beat Drewiske in camp so that they can stay on the roster as the #7.

If they lose either to waivers or trade or if one of them makes it and Drewiske is waived or dealt, the Kings (or Ron Hextall more or less) will have to look to find some bodies to fill the blueline in Manchester. Wonder if they'll be scouring the CHL for undrafted overages who could be eligible to be signed and play in the AHL next season.

I like him but I think some serious cautious optimism needs to be applied when talking how soon he will be a successful NHLer. During the Super Series he was criticized for looking to pass too often and while he has a nice two way game he is at least a full year under Morris before he will be able to pick up the system. During the WJC's he was definitely one of the better players for Can but like Kozun he played more as a role player than anything else.

Not that Kozun and TP aren't great prospects who are NHL lock's imo but where Kozun should be ready for a cup of tea this year and full time next year TP is going to need a couple of seasons to get there. Definite late bloomer and built for NHL play but just a little cautious optimism is all I am suggesting.

He will challenge for a spot on our 3rd line LW next season and get it going after that imo.

Most fans tend to enjoy playing with their new toys ( ie Tanner, Prokhorkin) and disregard their old ones (Holloway).

Holloway's dad said that Bud Wants to play for the Kings and be in the NHL. I don't know if DL will ever want him here but someone will and they will be very happy once they do.

BH has worked his tail off and developed into an elite prospect. He hits, plays with a very solid amount of edge and is a clutch goal scorer.

He will be a good NHLer when he gets his chance.

And so much for our WEALTH of D depth on the farm eh ? but you're right, It's too bad we don't have a VET D man that could be used in Manchester, I think back to when Oleg Tverdovsky was with the Monarchs for that year, and it really HELPED those kids at the time.

Oh, I agree about Holloway.

And it isn't just Holloway, but others like Hickey, Muzzin, Lokti etc that will probably go onto prosper for another nhl team, because our team is set for years and years to come. And if there's an opening, it will most likely be filled by a highly touted veteran who wants to be a part of our winning culture than by a prospect who's put in endless hours in our system.

Such is the price of winning the cup I suppose.
