He's got some family issues. I think his wife has cancer or something like that, and I believe the only reason he hasn't signed with anyone is because he's considering taking the year off to deal with that.

That really sucks. It better be someone close to his voice.

Why's that?

Gonna miss Bill's goal calls with that deep monotone voice.

They were always sneaking snide jabs in at him. How long it took to announce goals, the volume of the announcements etc. I think Razor even did an impression of him on that behind the scenes vid that got out.

Yep. Did a pretty good job, too, really sounding it out.

i can't stand his loud, atonal booming voice..the way he eased into the powerful part of a call like he was starting in molasses.. ugh.. good riddance. (not that i have anything personal against the guy.... he could be a great human with a lousy voice)

Best arena announcer of all time. I've been listening to his voice for as long as I can remember! He IS a Dallas Star!

I swear to god if Jeff K becomes the new guy...

I still think Robidas should be traded and this might not be a bad time to do it. There are several high profile teams that need to fill spots on their bluelines. Teams start getting antsy if they don't have enough depth on D heading into camp. Could Philadelphia be interested in reuniting the effective Grossmann-Robidas pairing in a reduced role compared to what they played on the Stars? Maybe Detroit could be a fit?

All depends on the return, but I'd rather keep him for now. Unless Dillon proves he's a top 4 guy or someone else pushes their way in, we'd have a hole without him.

Right now, no. Too many question marks.

And I think if there's 1 defender that'll be traded, it'll be Fistric.

Nemeth/Robidas - Goligoski
Daley - Dillon
Rome - Larsen
Benn

Not sure I like that for a playoff push.

We'd have a hole sure, but who cares? This team isn't winning anything next season. Does the presence or absence of Robidas make the difference in terms of contending for a playoff spot? I say no. I'm ready to roll with Rome as #6 and Benn as #7 if it continues the process of changing the leadership culture of the team.

I really have no idea. The goal is obviously to make the playoffs though, and I'm not sure a rookie over Robidas is the best way to do that.

? I'm saying Rome over Robidas. Dillon should play either way.

It's also possible the team could get back a defenseman in a Robidas trade.

That would have to happen or we would have to sign someone like Roszival or something.

Id love to trade Robidas and then sign Roszival, but it sounds like Joe thinks Robidas will have a great bounce back season because he can actually train this off-season.

Lundqvist, on Twitter, took a shot yesterday at the owner's for not wanting to play under the CBA they previously designed. It's interesting that his team's owner will be one of the biggest supporters of sticking it to the players to pay for the revenue sharing rather than doing the smart thing and create a fair system ... possibly a luxury tax ... to truly fix the issues of the have's/have not's in the NHL.

Will players put this stuff behind them quickly when a new CBA is finally done ($$$ is green and they'll play for anyone) or do you think some could hold grudges against teams like Toronto and NY that don't want to do the right thing?

I think it depends on if a lockout occurs or how much the players ended up giving up to get this done.

If the players take less than a 50/50 break, regardless of a lock out or not, I would not be surprised if some took it personally and potentially boycotted a bigger market. I think the same could be true if an extended lockout does occur.

I just thought it was interesting that the biggest star player in NY ... without actually targeting his team owner ... was speaking out against essentially his team. It's pretty clear the big boys in the NHL are getting what they want ... I highly doubt a team like PHX, FLA, or NAS agree that putting the burden of revenue sharing completely on the players is smart or going to actually work ... you know since it's already proven that didn't work last time. That's why they are in this mess again.

Players will continue to go where the money is. Humans are predictable like that.

For big free agents ... the money is the same. Lundqvist is a free agent in 2 years. I just wonder how much the big teams want to fight to stop a logical revenue sharing program. If the players get burned a second time to carry the burden of low income markets I think you could see a backlash.

From a money standpoint .... teams like the NY Rangers are pushing for Lundqvist to lose at least $3 million in the next 2 years, and he could potentially lose up to $5.5 million in the next 2 years if there is a lockout until December.
