Is there a list of players who are set to become UFA's in the coming years?

So i was listening to a podcast with Mitchell and he talked about playing in the third line, i have been sure someone is in the block and i noticed that comment.

So is it Brodziak, Cullen or Clutterbuck?

Won't be Brodziak, one of the best 3rd line centers in the league. Cullen is too valuable off the ice.

Well... we're right up at the 50 contract wall with the recent QO signings too, don't think there's even room for Palmeri to sign right now right?

We HAVE to trade someone.

Leopold also hinted something is going down, he got a little carried away in the July 4th hype.

According to CapGeek, we're at 51/50 with 3 SR contracts (Dumba, Brodin, Phillips) when McMillan's deal is added and when Palmieri is signed.

Clutterbuck + Bulmer + 1st for Yandle

Get it done Fletch.

Jokes. Mostly.

But Clutterbuck + 1st for Girardi in New York? Something around that?

EDIT: Hmm, we're pushing up close against the cap.

Clutterbuck and Backstrom for...Phaneuf.

Note: This post is mostly a joke, although I would do most of these trades.

Considering only Dumba's won't be counting when he's sent back to Juniors... that leaves us dead at the wall. Hard to see something NOT being worked on.

I doubt Phoenix, New York, or Toronto would trade any of those players.

I'd happily take a draft pick and/or prospect for him straight up.

I can't seriously see Clutterbuck leaving until his contract expires. The guy is a fan favorite, and is one of the most valuable 3rd line agitators in the NHL; he's also a leader on and off the ice, and our prospect pool is stacked.

Maybe we trade Cal for a pick if he wants too much money in 2013-2014, but right now seems like a bad time. Plus, we have plenty of other expendable players right now.

Gonna say it's one of either Prosser, Falk, or Stoner.

Fan favorite or not... that didn't protect Burns. All depends on the return. Fans could love the right deal.

True.

However, I would argue that Fletcher saw the Burns trade as necessary. The team's future wasn't nearly as bright, and our prospect pool needed a jump-start if we wanted a shot at becoming serious contenders in the future.

Right now, why would we execute a trade for Clutterbuck? We have a terrific stable of prospects, and we just pulled off one of the greatest free-agencies the NHL has ever seen.

The only realistic way I could see us trading Clutterbuck is if the offer was too good to ignore. Those types of offers usually don't come unless a team is bolstering-up for a Cup run.

To put together a package for a top 4 D-man as even Fletcher said he sees as the team's only weakness right now.

Prosser, Falk, Stoner aren't the type of players to get that done in a package. Clutterbuck could be.

Also, this situation looks very necessary with the bumping up past the 50 contract limit.

What happens when Brodin and Dumba make the team, though? I'm not sure we have room in our future top-4. We also have other prospects like Seeler who could surprise and become a top-4 D-man.

I'm just saying if we're worrying about about reaching the contract limit, there are much more likely options to trade than Clutterbuck.

Not totally sure why, but I've never been a huge fan of Clutterbuck...Maybe it's because he's more of a "character" than a hockey player and I think he's probably the most replaceable player on the roster..but if we're gonna trade him, I'm not sure his value will ever be higher than now....

Bingo. There's nothing that leads me to believe he'll be a 20-goal threat if he's struggling to get 3rd line minutes and linemates.

If we can package him with Stoner/Falk/Prosser for an upgrade on D, I'm 100% behind that idea.

Clutterbuck seemed awfully bummed when Schultz was traded, maybe there was more to it than we know.

People bring up Clutterbuck because his trade value relative to his hockey production might be one of the highest on the team.
Hes a fan favorite but you do what is best for the team, winning outweighs everything.

That's exactly why we trade for one instead of sign one as a ufa. A ufa wants a long deal, in a trade, you can target someone who's contract is up in 2-3yrs.

Fletcher was afraid of walking into the season without Burns signing an extension (Gaborik was fresh on his mind). Not only that but Burns was traded earlier in the offseason when we could gauge the draft pick coming back.

As well, it sped up the rebuild process a lot quicker, so Fletcher jumped at the opportunity.

Minnesota will need to open a few spots open, so I could see some guys dumped.
