I hope your point isn't that playing forward should've helped his production because he was played on the fourth line with grinders, playing minimal minutes.
I was merely correcting his incorrect statement.
He got 8 of his 18 points on the powerplay (he got plenty of PP time as well to get that). 10 ES points is what you can expect from a 4th liner I would guess but he had ice time per game similar to Moen who was more productive. 15minutes per game is not what I'd call ''minimal minutes'', I was surprised he played this much in fact. Probably because he's pretty invisible out there...
Whatever way you put it Weber did not have a good season. Its harsh to judge him entirely on it but its also difficult to assign him a role on the roster with the competition he has. He's not good at forward and its rather pointless to keep him there and with our current group of defensemen he's no8... Subban, Markov, Gorges are far ahead while Emelin, Diaz, Kaberle and Bouillon are better. I guess he's a serviceable reserve D, sucks for him tho.

Since when is 18 pts in 60 games for a defenceman who plays 10 mins a game awful? I think he needs to be more consistent but eventually he'll find his groove.
Since he can't play defense to save his life, which is his main duty.
McDonagh was lost not because he wasn't developed properly (he never played a game for the Habs) but because of Gainey's frantic tearing apart of the Habs and his desire to bring in Gomez. As I recall, Beauchemin and Hainsey were lost because of front office administrative blunders.
I think you're assuming Woe-ber could be another Mark Streit.Sadly, he's been inadequate as a Dman and PP point specialist in both scoring and setting up forwards. He couldn't protect the point and was helpless against shoerthanded breakaways. In his own end he was frequently outmuscled and wasn't effective in clearing the puck. Diaz and St=Denis outshone him. The Habs have several inexperienced Dman prospects who probably couldn't be much worse than Woe-ber as injury replacements.
Woe-ber was a third round pick. I would be pleased to exchange him for a 2013 third rounder (or maybe even a fourth).
If he's garbage on the 3rd worse team in the league why would any other team give up a 3rd rounder? You mean the Columbus Blue Jackets' 3rd rounder?
A better analogy is Ryan O'Byrne. He has worked out quite well. We complained that he wasn't working in Montreal but we didn't use him properly. He's now a top-4 dman on the Colorado Avalanche, a superior team to the Montreal Canadiens. He played some 220 minutes on the PK, over 3 minutes per game, that's awesome. We could have used a shutdown dman of his caliber last year. We could use one now.
Some rookies need a bit of time and space, so give it to them, it pays off, it's a long-term investment. Another example is Kyle Chipchura. He averaged 10:31 per game last year, on a Phoenix Coyotes team that is superior to the Montreal Canadiens, just like Colorado. He had 3 goals and 13 assists, that is excellent secondary scoring for a guy who played 558 minutes. In contrast, our 4th line center, Petteri Nokelainen, had 3 goals and 4 assists in 493 minutes. Our other 4th line center, Scott Gomez, had 2 goals and 9 assists in 537 minutes. We could really use his secondary offensive production on the 4th line, as we could his size and physicality.
Whatever Weber had a bad first year, give him time, we have nothing to lose.

He is a victim of his first few games Habs games where he scored.
People got all excited, and some just can't let go.
If he could not cement himself on a roster with so little blue line, which he 100% did not, it is time to find more talent and focus on them. The Habs need to get something for him if they move him...no more giving stuff away.

I really hope he finds his game next season. I have no idea why so many people are so eager to get rid of him.
He has one of the best slap shots I've seen, and we've seen some of the best in the league with the Habs these past few years.
His defensive game needs polishing, but that's not unusual for defensemen of his age. And I don't get why it "won't happen in Montréal" for him. It's not like we have a star-studded defense.
But we have a lot of d-men. Thing is weber is a project. The guy won't develop if he doesn't play his role. We'll see but habs have a lot of defenseman and I hope they make move for him if he shows up ready this year.

Keep him on D. Live with his mistakes. Make him feel comfortable.
Some kids will respond well to constantly feeling pressure from battling against another youngster for a spot, others won't. It doesn't mean the kid that struggles should be ignored or dealt.
Weber is one of the few guys on the Habs I feel no attachment to. I've never understood the hype. To be fair, I've never seen him play for the Bulldogs, but there's never been anything in him that I thought was special.
He was also given plenty of chances last year and dropped a couple spots on the depth charts to Emelin and Diaz. We still don't really have that big shooter on D for Markov to feed pucks to, but hoping Subban might be able to fill that role.
I personally wouldn't be that disappointed if he leaves, but am not against giving him a chance to prove himself this off-season. I'm not out holding much hope though and doubt we'll regret losing him if he does leave.

Try closer to 16 minutes a night with the 8th most PP time amongst hab players. He wasnt awful but lets not sit here and believe 18 points playing an avg of 15:37 a night with a lot of PP time is anything to write home about. He was give a tremendous chance to force Montreals hand unfortunately he failed miserably at seizing the opportunity

I expect him to return to his former team in Swirzerland within a year after failing to get a lomg-term contract from an NHL team.

Doubt it. It's been a long time since he played in Switzerland. The highest level he played there was Swiss jrs. He played ohl, ahl and NHL in north America. I think he'll stay.

Good for him. Good attitude. He knows his situation, it's not good. He should have won a spot last year.
Let's see if he develops some confidence this fall. He has nothing to lose, and D men need confidence, big time.
I hope Therrien pushes him hard, and encourages him, like good coaches should do. Then let's see. Weber is not one of the big problems on this team at all.

Good trade this loser to edmonton for ryan whitney in last year of his contract,because you need some size and left handed shot to run powerplay if markov can't play full season.

1. Habs mismanaged a young developing player by playing him out of position.
2. Player gets frustrated and says something because his career and earnings are at stake.
3. Habs fans call him loser and want to ship him off when his value is the lowest
4. Player leaves Habs and thrives somewhere else, counting his lucky stars
5. Habs fan cry over how stupid the GM was or we didn't give the player a real shot...blah blah
