St. Louis was a phenomenal, dangerous team. If you could beat them you earned the win. The Jr. Blues didn't win often against them in the past few years, but we packed the arena on the off chance it would happen. Right now the closest road-trip team for the Jr. Blues is Janesville. Their rink is small, but the fans are great and the food's delicious.

By the by, for folks going to the Illinois State Fair... the Jr. Blues will be playing four preseason games, and free tickets will be available at the fair and at local sponsors.

Their preseason warmup games will be two games against the NA3HL Peoria Mustangs September 1 and 2 and two games against the Illini Hockey Club on September 7 and 8. The information is on the Jr. Blues Facebook page.

Those four games, plus a preseason game in Dubuque between the Fighting Saints and the Janesville Jets on September 6... I'm apparently making up for missed hockey time.

Probably. Losing Alaska and Dawson Creek really hurt the division. I'm surprised the now-defunct franchises (like Chicago and New Mexico, maybe even St. Louis if they move dormant teams) weren't moved to create a larger West.

The Johnstown Tomahawks are nearing 1,000 season tickets - good job by the office staff. Plus the owners are getting the word out about the team and have been at many local events during the summer months.

Also see where Rio Grande Valley will be joining the NAHL next season and possibly Laredo will be making an announcement to follow.

I read about that, Rio Grande Valley wanted to join this season, but they ran out of time. Good to see the Killer Bees in the NAHL. Glad for the Tomahawks too. Hope they flourish in PA.

Got a chance to try out the home ice for the Jr. Blues a couple of nights ago. Very smooth so far, I hope the ice crew can keep it like that for the season.

The Springfield Jr. Blues hosted the NA3HL Peoria Mustangs as part of a preseason series in Springfield on Saturday and Sunday. The Jr. Blues won 6-0 on Saturday and 12-1 on Sunday. Brett Skibba, a returning forward from last year, scored four goals on Sunday including a natural hat trick in the first and second periods. The Tier III players skated hard but they could not keep up with the Jr. Blues in terms of defense.

This coming weekend the Jr. Blues will host the University of Illinois Fighting Illini hockey team for two games on Friday and Saturday night. It should be interesting to see how the Jr. Blues fare against older players.

This Sat. & Sun. first two games for the Tomahawks

After two years without a local team, the Johnstown Tomahawks will play at Port Huron Saturday night and Sun. afternoon. Looking to see how well these young guys can perform. Since they have the nucleus of the Alaska Avalanche team, should have a decent team this year.
I hope the games are on radio, so I can tune in over the internet. GO TOMAHAWKS!

The Robertson Cup host not being announced yet makes me think that we are definitely going to see a change in format for this year. Either going to 4-division round robin at a neutral site or a conference play set-up like most of the other cups. Personally the 4-division neutral site scenario seems the most likely.

The Showcase Tournament was fantastic, just not for everyone. A goal late in the third period caused a serious momentum shift for the Brookings Blizzard against the Springfield Jr. Blues, carrying them into a shootout win. Still, Springfield went 1-2-1 this time, keeping the losses close. It's all right, though. The Jr. Blues ought to wind up surprising a few folks during the regular season.
