Kimmo should get it and it would be a tremendous show of respect since this will probably be his last year in the NHL. I would love for them to sign him to a 1-2 year deal if he can still play... but...

First name that comes to mind is Timonen, just out of respect for the guy.

The "leaders" are already there but the C means, 'This City Loves You'.

No M. Richards bullcrap referring to my comment please............pretty please?

Did Kevin Dineen have anything go wrong with him? No career changing concussions from what I remember

How? #NSN just locked Weber up for the next 14-years. IMO, Poile owes Holmgrem a beer and a 'thank you' card.'

Why not give giroux the C?

Do you mean when he was with the Flyers? He had Crohn's Disease which was diagnosed prior to his trade to the Flyers. In the season he was traded by the Flyers, he was dropped to the fourth line at times with Craig MacTavish and (someone else) after Pat Falloon and Trent Klatt were acquired. Dineen had a NTC so he granted approval to being traded. I don't recall any concussion issues, he seemed to have shoulder-related injuries more than anything.

Those of you saying Giroux won't get it are kidding yourselves. He's the face of the team now, it's going to happen eventually. Kimmo is likely to retire after this year so no point in giving it to him. G is the obvious choice

I don't know if there are many who don't think that he will get the C. It's more that the majority, including me, don't want him to get it.

Strongly pushing for Briere or Timonen. Giroux doesn't need the pressure. Don't need the C to be a leader.

I would definitely say Timonen.
The man deserves it.

Giroux doesn't need the pressure of the C, he has plenty of time for that in his future. For now he should grow to be a stronger leader and keep his role as alternate. He doesn't need the pressure of captain right now.

While I'm in the camp of giving the C to Timonen until he retires, I will pose this possible outcome in giving it to G: since Roo plays with such jam in big game situations, wouldn't it seem like with him being captain, every game would be more important and he would play even harder? Though that may not necessarily mean that he plays better, it could pay off with him having the piece of mind that he's in charge of leading this team to the promised land.

Not that it matters, we don't have any say in how they handle the situation, but from comments around the locker room it seems like G will be captain as soon as this season

Give it to Harts........The guy deserves it ! Tough on the ice, sticks up for his mates, strong in the room, and is absolutely HATED in Pittsburgh..

i totally agree with this. heart and soul in a real way. not that cheeseball sold by the media mike richards is just like bobby clarke kinda fake way. i hope we can sign doan also. the more i look at the loss of jagr the more i realize we need an old head like doan who's' hungry and ready to rock. It really does sound like he doesn't want to leave the west but he would fit in awesome here. our team is built to win now. were him and a defenseman away from perfect stability.

I'd give it to Briere. He's been a captain before and has had no problem voicing his opinion in the locker room in the past. He's done a great job mentoring guys like Giroux and Couturier and the Philly media loves him.

I have no doubt G will be captain someday, but for now I'd rather see him just focus on playing the game.

Kimmo, Briere, or Hartnell.

Let G focus on his game.

Briere would be fine.

An added bonus of giving it to Hartnell or Kimmo is that being "given the locker room" could add psychological pressure to continue playing or resign sensible deals.

Then again, it may not. I know it works on certain types of people.

Kimmo this year, and Giroux after that.

This is Giroux's team. We saw what he did in the playoffs.
