Devils Prospect Poll 2012- #8

New Jersey Devils Prospect Rankings
1. Jon Merrill, D (NCAA) University of Michigan, Drafted 38th overall 2010
2. Eric Gelinas, D (AHL) Albany Devils, Drafted 54th overall 2009
3. Scott Wedgewood, G (OHL) Plymouth Whalers, Drafted 84th overall 2010
4. Alex Urbom, D (AHL) Albany Devils, Drafted 73rd overall 2009
5. Stefan Matteau, RW (USHL) U.S. NTDP, Drafted 29th overall 2012
6. Reese Scarlett, D (WHL) Swift Current Broncos, Drafted 159th overall 2011
7. Damon Severson, D (WHL) Kelowna Rockets, Drafted 60th overall 2012

This has been done in years past and I always enjoyed seeing how us fans view the organization's top prospects in comparison to HF. Please make sure to post who you voted for and who you nominate to be added to the next poll.

I will be defining prospects based on HF's criteria.

Quote:
1. If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

2. An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to
the criteria above.

3. European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.
Here is the list of the organization's prospects that fit the criteria above.
Quote:
Jean-Sebastien Berube
Matt Corrente
Joe Faust
Jeff Frazee
Artur Gavrus
Curtis Gedig
Mike Hoeffel
Mauro Jorg

Boucher got sent to the third line in the OHL which is one of the highest scoring leagues in north america,

Burlon's done NOTHING. Can't imagine where the love affair is coming from unless it's because he's a former college player.

Kinkaid is 2 years further along in his development. He's good but he's got years of experience on Clermont,

Coleman's pretty good,

Wohlberg 's pretty good,

I like Sislo but only as a b6 player.

So yes. I see Clermont as having considerable upside compared to the rest of the rat pack.

that's sad that you see clermont as the tallest midget in this situation. Not that I think our pool at this point is anything to rave about either but still. Clermont was ECHL goaltending and probably will be so again. He might play in the AHL soon if he's lucky.

Dunno why he was held back for Frazee tbh. Kinkaid has some promise but I just don't see him being THE GUY that Clermont can be. Max is boom or bust really + I saw a lot of good in him in Gatineau/Hull so I just kinda went with him. Wolhberg, Coleman another 2 close ones. Boucher's more eye candy than anything. Massive disappointment last season, but he's young and can pull it together still. Just dunno if he will.

he's a 6th rounder with potential. Only player that'd be better in that draft is Mark Stone and that's a maybe if I've ever seen one.

Clermont couldn't even post a .900 save percentage in juniors. Not once have I heard someone consider him part of the future of our organization

So Clermont, who has a pro season under his belt and has a good chance to make an impact, was a worse pick by the Devils than, say, Patrick Daly? A guy that left the Wisconsin hockey team to focus on academics at a D3 school?

What about Matt Delahey? A 4th rounder (two rounds higher than Clermont) in '08 who Lou didn't even bother to sign?

What about Kory Nagy? Ashton Bernard?

a sixth round pick was our worst pick in years.

do you honestly comprehend what you just said?

how many 6th rounders make the NHL? 10%? 5%? probably less.
