Guess you havent seen him in his AHL days or the fact he broke Koci's jaw. He turned into a boring fighter when he hit the big show though, jersey jab jesery jab and a clap.
RILEY ****ING COTE was a hired punching bad lol. Entertaining but his face got pounded a lot lol.
Trevor Gillies always seemed to me to be just the moustache, but not a good fighter at all. Still can't understand why we would play him over Haley.
Gillies? No way. He might be the worst player in the AHL and might start half his fights with suckerpunches or checks from behind, but the one thing the guy can do is fight.

I would not consider Kris Newbury a punching bag, he was a good middleweight fighter until Ronald Petrovicky knocked him out cold. How can Kronwall be considered a punching bag, he only fought once in his career and that was in the AHL.

I've seen newbury knocked out or buckled badly twice since the petrovicky fight. Once against, I think Brown, and once against some other guy I can't remember. He's very brave, but so were guys like Buchberger and Odgers.
And Kronwall's a punching bag because he remains motionless while guys beat on him.

Can't disagree with you there, I hate Kronwall. Sometimes he leaves his feet when he hits, I don't really have a problem with that but at least accept a challenge once in a while. But no Kronwall is too much of a coward to fight.
I proudly sport his jersey at Kings games due to his immense heart and willingness to go with anybody, but this thread needs more DOUG ZMOLEK.
Along with Zmolek, punching bags from the past have to include the following:
Buchberger: Not as bad of a punching bag earlier in his career, but he just kept fighting way past his prime. It was cringe-inducing whenever he dropped the gloves for LA. Not only would he get plastered, but he threw the sloppiest, weakest looking punches as well.
S. Webb: Whenever Rob Ray is having a bad day, he can just look up his fights against Webb and instantly feel better. Loved his heart and willingness to go with anybody, but man he got dropped a lot.
Jason Marshall: Another guy who fought wide open but really shouldn't have.
Bonvie: Guy was a joke in the NHL. Tons of hype but was embarassing outside of the minors.
Odgers: Has some decent wins but, again, his smaller stature and wide-open style left him vulnerable far too often.
S. McKenna: You might say he didn't get tuned up too often, but that's only because he got ravaged by Ken Belanger early-on in his career and decided to hit the ejector seat button in every fight after that once he didn't like the way things were going. Complete embarassment of an enforcer.

Tom Canstopafist: See above. Still love his KO of Steve Ott though. Ott should be ashamed.
C. Adams: Just one of those guys when you see the boxscore and you tell yourself "wonder if he got dropped".
Honorable mention to a non-fighter from the past in Daryl Sydor. Feel bad for the guy because he wasn't a fighter, but mother of god did he ever get the living crap beat out of him by Severyn and McKenzie. Think he got his face broken both times.

We're in agreement again. Now, Dennis Bonvie did get annihilated twice by Eric Cairns, but he was giving up about 8 inches and 30-50 pounds. Against other guys he more than held his own. And he gave out one of the worst beatings I've ever seen to Romun Ndur.

Eric Cairns and Dennis Bonvie are some of my favourite enforcers. Here's another punching bag to add to the list.
Romun Ndur was, as mentioned, a punching bag. So Bonvie did well against a minor-league fighter in the NHL...doesn't mean he wasn't trash at the NHL level. I like Bonvie, don't get me wrong, but he was super-hyped and couldn't get it done against the legit NHL guys.
You mention the losses to Cairns, but Rob Ray took his soul in Buffalo at center ice as well.
I don't remember Kostopoulos ever winning a fight with the Habs yet he fought all the time and never backed down no matter the opponent. Ultimate punching bag.

Every fight Luke Schenn gets in to almost always results in him getting his clock cleaned. At first I felt bad for him because he was a rookie with the balls to stick up for himself and his teammates but after a while it's just like give it up kid.
