Power walking is just a joke. Next Summer Olympics, they should add the light jog event.
Might be a joke...but it's been in all of the Olympics except the first two...(in since 1904).
Still, don't really understand the sport though. Regardless, no matter how much you think it's a joke, power walking for like 50km is no small feat I would imagine (whoa...all time record is 3:34hr? Jesus...crazy fast...).

Oh no doubt it's crazy to do it for 50km. I just think sitting around for 3+ hours while watching grown men walk like WWE wrestler Santino Marella can get quite boring.

Lol, well, frankly, watching anyone do ANYTHING for hours can get quite boring...yes that includes watching the Indy, marathons, marathon swimming, Tour De France (albeit I like it...I just can't watch it intently for the full time)...anything really. At least with things like the triathlon races they have different disciplines to break up the hours.
Right...just like they should get rid of hurdles, 100m, 400m, 800m, all other short distances, power waking and just keep the marathon...since God forbid if one person comes around and just dominate all those distances...getting multiple medals in running must be stupid simple.
Or keep the gymnastic to just the floors and take out the bars, beam, vault etc...
Oh, while we are at it, they should also take out all indoor biking, along with the bmx stuff and just keep the long distance road race...
oh and...blah blah blah...
Isn't it unfair that there is, say, one medal for an entire soccer team that plays many times in the olympics and a ****load of medals to win for someone who happens to be a swimmer?
Say the most dominant athlete compared to his peers is in a sport with only one medal to win and another happens to be a good (not even great) swimmer. The swimmer can get lucky and win a gold along with a load of silvers and bronzes. Who's the greatest athlete? Its ok that there are multiple swimming or running competition but the medals shouldn't used as a benchmark. Same for comparing country medals, its a pointless process.
24 years ago, Ben Johnson did 9.79 and won the gold for at least one day. Gatlin did the exact same time today and finished 3rd AND wasn't too far behind.

Olympics were not created to be entertaining for the TV audience. You need to realize that. They have added all sorts of pro sports and 'X' types of events to attract the younger crowd.
But personally, if you ask me, a guy that runs for 42 kms has more credibility as an athlete than a woman that jumps on a trampoline. That's just me. Trampoline is in fact a training method for many sports. I can't believe it's really an olympic sport. To me, it's just a circus act. Sorry. She will be good in Amaluna with the Cirque du Soleil next year, that for sure.

Comparing country medals is realistic when you have countries with same population size and geographic situations. With Canada, it's tough to compare with anybody, since our population is closer to that of southern hemisphere countries. We do not compare with Sweden and Norway in terms of population. But we do compare with them geographically. We are a powerhouse when it comes to Winter games (1st in Vancouver in gold medals, 3rd in medal count). And, to me, it's pretty normal, since we ARE one of the biggest winter sports country in the world.
I think the diving people have to change up the difficulty table. Everyone is doing the 2 1/2 somersault. Clearly it isn't as difficult as the score suggests.
