Tarasenko vs. Rundblad

Okay, I know one's a forward and one is a defenseman, but I was having an argument with a friend about the 2010 draft. I've always been of the opinion that Ottawa should have kept our pick and drafted Tarasenko instead of trading it to St. Louis for Rundblad. My friend disagrees.

So, who would you rather to your team, Tarasenko or Rundblad? I hate comparing forwards to defenders as much as the next guy but I'm curious now.

I would never draft a Russian. So Rundblad easily.

Tarasenko, without even taking position (forward or defense) into consideration.

For my team it made sense then and even more so now to trade Runblad and take Tarasenko.

Tarasenko without a moments hesitation for the Blues.

I would think the vast majority of the teams would feel the same.

Tarasenko is the flavor of the day so it isn't really a fair comparison. I think when they are both settled in the NHL it would be a little more even but right now it has to be Tarasenko. There is just too much hype around him.

You have a link? I could semi understand it though as Runblad had an amazing season in the SEL. People were still afraid Tarasenko may never play in the NHL.

With Tarasenko inked to an NHL contract things change dramatically. As well as Runblad having a disappointing season last year with his defensive game not quite being up to NHL standards yet.

His defensive game isn't even up to ECHL standards.

Rundblad is being very underrated on HF. He was a NA rookie, he's still a very very good prospect. I think it's closer than most would think longterm, but i'd give the edge to Tarasenko.

Now that Tarasenko has agreed to come to N.A, I think it's him by a fair margin. The move was very much a risk/reward move. If Tarasenko never comes over and Rundblad turns into a good NHL Dman, it's a big fail. Tarasenko has agreed to come over, so now looking at the players' skill and value to an NHL team only, it's Tarasenko.
