Would love to see them get a team back. Not fair they missed Durant by 1 season.

Did they move cause bad attendance? Cause I am sure Durant would have changed that instantly.

Aren't they building a new one? Seeing that they're back in the potential Coyotes relocation mix...

The only way I see Seattle getting an NBA Team back and getting an NHL team is if a new arena is funded privatly. Right now the tide has changed in terms of funding arenas and stadiums as noted not only with the voters shooting down the Islanders new arena but also the people in Seattle saying no more as well. At the rate things are going Kansas City will be in the running for a new team if someone wants to own a team there.

NHL in Seattle would be great, except when Canucks fans invade that place.

Should have never left Seattle. Sad, pathetic story. Whats sad is that if/when they get a team, they wont have any history to go off of, since all of that history belongs to OKC now.

SEATTLE (AP)

The Metropolitan King County Council has voted to approve a proposal for a new arena that could bring the NBA back to Seattle.

COURTSIDE STARS
Celebrities love to see and be seen at NBA games.

The County Council approved the amended proposal from investor Chris Hansen by a 6-3 vote on Monday afternoon. The plan also needs approval from the Seattle City Council. If the city makes any changes, it will need to be voted on again by the county.

Just before the county hearing began, eight of nine Seattle councilmembers unveiled a letter to Hansen saying changes must be made to the proposal before they can support it. The City Council wants to ensure that a portion of tax revenues generated by a new arena would help pay for local transportation improvements. Currently, the proposal calls for those taxes to be used to pay off the $200 million in city and county bonds for the $490 million arena.

Enough of this notion that Seattle is a big city. They hardly support what they have now. The Seahawks do OKAY though.

The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area is the 15th largest in the United States.

Over the past 5 seasons the lowest their capacity has been was 99% last season.

Their MLS team, the Seattle Sounders, are always at the top of the league when it comes to attendance. Just because the Mariners suck doesn't mean the city can't support sports franchises...

I really wish you would just admit that you have no idea what you are talking about before posting.

Seattle routinely fills the barn for the Sounders and Seahawks. Hell, the Sounders are the only team in that city that has really committed to putting a winning product on the field year in and year out. The Mariners get no support because they are perennially terrible.

The Seattle MSA is larger than 14 of the 28 current NBA markets, checking in at 3.5 million people. I'd say that's a pretty big city.

You're so wrong. Seattle fans are some of the most loyal in all of sports. All of their franchises have been laughing stocks for years and they support them greatly. Only for the last year or two has the Mariners attendace been low, and that's after 10 years of being a joke. They always sold out Sonics games in the past. They deserve a team.

the Seattle metro area is huge, as well.

Only question is who relocates there as, unlike the NHL, there seem to be no rumors whatsoever that the NBA is even remotely considering an expansion.

Who're the prime suspects? Kings, Bucks, and Grizzlies, right? Anyone else on the potential relocation block now that the Hornets seem to be locked down in New Orleans?

I'm not going to get into this who is more deserving crap, especially since Seattle itself is not a city filled with hardcore fans of their sports teams. It can be argued that at best the city can support 1 more team maybe 2. The Sonics are no problem, but an NHL team could go either way. If an NHL team does go there, it will be based on the help of those in British Columbia to give up supporting who they follow right now and willing to spend money on a team in Washington that would be cheaper than what they would see the Rodgers Centre.

I have talked to plenty of people who used to live in Seattle and moved to AZ and they will say that I am right.

I've seen it with my own eyes. I lived up there for a year with my cousin and I can tell you, they're very passionate about their teams. This is coming from a guy who is fans of many teams that are rivals with Seattle-based teams.

The former mayor of Seattle sold the team out by taking money to negate the lease with Key arena. The fans of the Sonics were not the reason they moved.
