You can use bold text to be smug too. There was a mass e-mail sent out about it. You might want to check your spam folder.

Kurz update. Source claims Sharks are still "among favorites" for Doan to sign with.

I've thought all along that if Doan goes anywhere, it'll be San Jose. Good place to raise his family and is closer to Glendale than most other teams. Plus Sharks are always a Cup contender.

I think he'd be a good addition as long as the Sharks don't have to pay him anything over $5m.

Just my two cents.

I am starting to wonder if Doan's decision is the only thing that is keeping DW from working on getting the bottom-6 better. Outside of that I am resigned to the fact that we are going with the same top-6 as last year.

If it happens it happens, if not then oh well. I'd like to think the Sharks can still land Doan but at this point I'm just ready for the 12-13 season to begin.

Bit harsh.

He clearly wants to stay. If there was a chance - even a small one (and no doubt, the guys who want it to happen are still feeding him that much...) - then you'd hold on too.

I applaud this guy. It's rare to see such loyalty to a franchise in this day and age, especially when he could make so, so much more money elsewhere...

As much as I'd love to see Doan in teal, I'm just as glad to know that DW wouldn't be dumb enough to give him $30 million for four years and that the highest DW would go is $4.5 million a season for a three year contract. Don't get me wrong Doan is a good player, he's a great leader, a veteran and would definitely add some much needed firepower to our team but I do not think he's worth $30 million for four years. He only put up 50 points last season and sure he could potentially put up 60+, but is it worth risking $30 million for four years on him when he's 35 years old? I think not.

So the way I see it is if we say no to Doan, then which of these FA forwards do we go after? http://capgeek.com/free_agents.php?y...F&fa_type_id=2

Maybe Andrei Kostitsyn, Eric Fehr, Kristian Huselius? I don't know. Maybe DW may have waited too long, but hopefully he does have a big plan up his sleeve to make a big trade or something. I think we all know why a lot of GM's have stopped making big moves these past few weeks because of the CBA bargaining but after/when that's done, what's DW's next move? Hopefully something big because something tells me that our new assistant coaches Jim Johnson and Larry Robinson (as good as they may be), Adam Burish and Brad Stuart won't solve all our problems.

I think that the associate / assistant coaches will have a lot bigger impact on the team than people realize. Our team is very competitive as it is; a solid 3rd line winger would be nice, and acquiring a solid 3rd line winger is very realistic.

I've been interested in Kostitsyn for awhile. He could be a great 7th fwd with spot duty on Thornton's line as an F1. A 1 or 2 year deal for around $3.5-3.75m per should do it.

Because not only does he want to hopefully stay loyal (if pheonix is staying), he also wants to make sure he has the insurance of a contract past next season just in case of a career ending injury happens.

I just watched the interview with Doan on TSN. I just dont see the Sharks getting him.

Doan wants a long term deal if he goes elsewhere. Plus, his heart is in Phoenix. He wont be the same player elsewhere...

A long term deal for him is 5 years max, with 4 being the most likely which would bring him to 39/40 years old.

If he signs any where else but pheonix means that pheonix will no longer be pheonix, so his heart will not be with them any more (hence the reason he is looking to move, he doesnt want to have the unknown of where the club will be)

Maybe Doan should retire? Especially if his heart is not in playing for any other team.

If he is really set on playing his entire career with the Yotes (which is truly remarkable in todays day and age) and does not see that happening retirement could be a solid option for him. He will be 36 when the season starts and from what has been heard around the rumor mill is making demands that are unrealistic in both term and salary.

Fear the fin claiming that DW is looking to get 4 years at 4.5 million/year for Doan. Don't like the term, but the price is pretty fair.

According to NBC sports. Sharks are one of the 3 for Doan, but DW will only offer 3 years.

And that article still suggests that someone will give him $7.5M for 4 years. @ ProHockeyTalk. Nobody is paying Doan an average salary of $7.5M.

MAYBE someone will do this 4 year deal, but probably not the Sharks:

$7.5, 4, 4, 2

I could be wrong, but I think that is okay under the CBA (who knows about a new CBA).

That would be 4 years, $17.5M, cap hit of $4.375M, but front loaded with a nice year one salary. Not only would the Sharks not do it because of the front-load, but also if Doan retires after year 3 so as not to play in year 4 for the $2M salary, in year 4 Sharks still have the $4.375M cap hit due to the contract being a 35+ contract, another reason they wouldn't do it. But I think there are other teams in the league who would.

There was a tweet on the trade forum saying Doan's choices are NYR, PIT, VAN, and PHO. Conflicting info yo.
