Fringe Core Players (need to get back to form/repeat last season to cement their spot):
Lupul
Kulemin
Gunnarsson

Players who I do not think are apart of the core but won't be traded away easily:
Grabo
Frattin

Feel free to disagree, the core player topic can be pretty subjective.
I don't understand how Kulemin is more of our core than Grabovski. Explain?

Kessel
Phaneuf
Rielly
Gardiner
Lupul
JVR

Biggs
Ross
Finn

I think from our prospects that Kadri and Colborne will get traded in a package for a #1C.

It is odd and looking back I'm not sure I agree with myself haha. I think with another top 6 winger and getting Kulemin onto the 3rd line he will be more important than Grabo. If we get a #1 center, I think Bozak may end up being a better fit on the 2nd line to be honest. Will never know until the situation comes up, if it ever comes up.

So, making the all star team isn't playing well?

Players I think will be in the line-up in 3 years:

JVR-_____-Kessel
___-Colborne-Frattin
Biggs-Kadri-Ross

Phaneuf-Rielly
Gardiner

Possible:
Kulemin, Deschamp
Finn, Percy, Blacker

Reimer, Scrivens, Owuya

"pimp"?

do all the ******s need to be kept in line? are you suggesting that kadri or the other players are involved in prostitution? has kadri even been with a woman before?

Kessel
Phaneuf
Gardnier

Are the only players that have played a full year in the NHL that I would build around. I think the leafs have a lot of pieces that can contribute to winning but will not ever be the guy to carry a team like these can. The future looks promising with Kadri,Frattin, Rielley and who knows maybe Reimer if he can make the push to number one status.

Right now and in the future: Kessel, Lupul, Phaneuf, Grabovski, JVR, Gardiner, Gunnarson (it's arguable whether he's a "core" player, but I see a steady and intelligent 25 year old # 4 D-man as one).

Perhaps in the future: Kulemin (if he rebounds to 20 + goal form with his great
two -way play) Rielly, Kadri, Frattin, Blacker, Biggs, Percy, Colborne, Ashton, D'amigo, Ross, Reimer, Scrivens.

So in my eyes right now the Leafs have 7 "core" players at the moment, and 13 players/prospects with the capability of becoming core players in the future. If a couple of those prospects pan out we're in pretty good shape.

The bolded IMO need upgrades to make us contenders. Frattin I think is questionable as well as a 2nd line winger, but you could slot Kadri into that spot assuming we need someone else for the #1 C spot.

#1 C is an obvious hole.

Reimer I don't think has the ceiling to be a legitimate #1 in this league. Glove hand/athleticism aren't good enough.

Bozak IMO has only shown himself to be average defensively. He's good at Face Offs at least. But does he look like the type of 3rd line centre you could see going out and shutting down the best of the best in four straight series?? Stoll, Kelly, Bolland, Staal, Draper, Pahlsson, etc are the recent SC Team 3rd line centres, they all blow Bozak out of the water defensively.

We have things like google and dictionaries to tell us what certain words mean. To call a pencil-necked player like Kadri a "pimp" is hyperbole. Why?

1. He's probably a virgin.
2. He couldn't crack the line-up of the lousy (5th last in the NHL) Maple Leafs.

Yeah we are better than that.

Joffrey Lupul - xxx - Phil Kessel
James Van Reimsdyk - Mikhail Grabovski - Nazem Kadri
Nikolai Kulemin - Tyler Bozak - xxx

Dion Phaneuf - xxx
Carl Gunnarsson - Jake Gardiner
Cody Franson - Morgan Rielly

James Reimer
xxx

A) No fourth line because I personally don't believe fourth liners are the core of any team. They are very important, yes (see Jersey last year) but no - not a core, they're replaceable.

B) Yes, I included Bozak. I think with proper development, Bozak can become one of the most dangerous third liners in the league. He won't be the super-amazing shutdown man that everyone thinks a third line center should be, but he'll be a great defensive third-liner that is extremely dangerous. Plus he can slide up and down the line up. Also, if he's paired with Kulemin - that's one hefty third line you have to worry about.

C) I don't believe Frattin will be with the team, he'll continue to develop into a great player and then become trade bait.

D) I'll believe in Reimer until next season. Then a true assessment can be made but until then, he's the #1. He still has plenty of upside and is young.

E) Cody Franson will be a beast - that is all. Gunnarsson is probably our most important defenseman. He simply gets the job done - people think he's easily replaceable, he's really not. We will need him around because he's just getting better.

I think by signing Grabo to a 5 year deal means that Burke has intentions on him being part of the core, no? People suggesting he'd be traded within the next year doesn't make sense IMO, it just doesnt seem like Burke would hand out a huge deal like that for a guy and turn around and trade him

While I agree I do think Luke Schenn should be brought up here to show that Burke would be willing to, just really really doesn't want to.

Lol I'm saying 99% of OHL players aren't virgins. Nice try tho, not sure if humour or stupidity
