Wow this really sucks. Might not have a full season so if he's out for 6 or 7 months he shouldn't miss too much but still this off-season really blows.
Well there goes all hope. Any predictions on what we do next?
Well they can go the free agency route with Rozsival or Clark. Rozsival might still be suffering from the concussion he received last year in the playoffs. Clark is older but is a shot blocking machine, not the greatest in zone defender.
Now we can go trade route. Jay Bouw is the first player to come to mind. Also Keith Yandle was supposedly available earlier in the summer. I actually think they go out and get someone no body thought they would.
Our D went from Serviceable with a check engine light to disabled on the side of the road.....HELP!
Yeah...all that fad hate for Carle was always hubris. Wasn't a fan but always said that he was the type of player that would be missed when he was gone and now that is 100X the case....
Once again..I feel bad for Timonen....
Guess Nashville knew we were tryin to pawn off damaged goods....
Our next 4 first round picks, Scott Laughton, Nick Cousins ... I don't think we can dispense with any of our remaining top-6 forwards and nobody will ask for Shelley/Rinaldo/Zolniercik.
Homer is dealing from a position of weakness right now.
I think Gus can pretty much make up for Mesz's even strength minutes but who can take his spot on the PP and be trusted to skate the puck out of our zone in the final minutes of a close game?
Hopefully Gus is ready to start logging some minutes. Really not interested in the slop that remains in FA/trust them to take much time away from Timonen. We have guys within our system that can plug in as #6's. Gus has shown some flashes of being a decent player, why not give him the chance? Unless someone is willing to accept some of the picks we didn't have to move from Weber, I'm not sure we have the assets (or at least are willing to move the assets) required to make a trade move. I wouldn't mind JBow (his cap hit aside) but I don't know that Calgary is going to bite on a package of something like a 1st +.
This happend to Zajac last year. Aug. 19th. He was back by Dec. 4th but he was rushed. Played 8 games then sat out another 6 weeks. Wasnt fully back till March. But by playoff time he was in mid-season form.
If Meszaros doesnt get rushed, he should be back without any regression by New Years.
If it's a torn Achilles. If it's a ruptured Achilles, then he'll be gone till April. But it doesnt sound like it's a rupture.
Pros: Nothing lost elsewhere on offense, prospects, or picks
Cons: Overpaying for mediocre free agents who have a serious flaw to their game, potential cap inflexibility to resign key players
Plan B: Good Trade, Lets go win
Flyers trade 2013 1st, 2nd, and 5th round picks along with eric wellwood for Jay Boumeester.
Pros: Flyers acquire a legitimate #1b/2a defenseman who will eat big minutes, flyers LTIR situation with mezsaros and pronger makes this cap hit irrelevant, flyers don’t overpay for a free-agent or old player.
Cons: Flyers sell some future, as well as a player with very high potential in wellwood. Flyers may have to overpay for boumeester because Calgary still has high demands.
Plan C: Selling the Past for the Present
Flyers trade Danny Briere to Buffalo Sabres for Andrej Sekera and Jordan Leopold.
Pros: Flyers have a balanced, strong, competitive defense from players 1-6, and free themselves from Briere’s contract.
Cons: Flyers lose veteran leadership, offensive production, and a playoff menace. Sabres could veto trade, as could Briere.
Plan D: Stealing Headlines and Players:
Flyers offersheet in this order:
1) PK Subban 8 years 50 million
2) Michael Del Zotto 6 years 35 million
3) Dimitri Kulikov 6 years 38 million
Pending offersheet success, Flyers then trade Matt Read, Wayne Simmonds, 3rd round pick for Bobby Ryan.
Pros: Flyers enter the season with a powerful squad balanced on offense and defense, filling in holes, and rolling with a top offensive line, and a studly young defenseman.
Cons: Flyers lose depth on offense, and take huge risks on ryan and Offersheeting even working, all of which are major risks.
