With that lunacy, 4 firsts.

I'll pass.

Its time to pay the piper and realize we are not winning the cup next season and just let the kids play.

Note to Holmgren: This is why you have defensive prospects. No stupid moves please.

Also, our top 4 is still among the best defensive top 4s in the NHL should Schenn rebound. Not too worried.

Not with Lavi/Bryz.

Though, its nice to know Gus/MAB/Man will have more of a chance.

On the other hand, Gervais/Lilja third pair, anyone?

No, it's not. We lack a true number one defenseman, so how do you figure them among the best?

Even if Meszaros is done for the entire year, I STILL wouldn't want Matt Carle on this team.

How is his defensive ability? Is he going to give up those backbreaking turnovers that Carle made (and forgotten about on the stat sheet by the media)?
He was used as a top pairing defender basically. He faced the toughest comp and had the 3rd toughest Ozone stars of Blues defenders. IMO he is our best option especially because he can likely be had for cheap on a 1 year deal.

That's a big if. We also have to hope Timonen avoids father time for another year.

Pens fan here in peace. What hideous bad luck for Meszaros. Hope he recovers ASAP.

Well this will be an interesting start to the season. So much for trying to keep Kimmo rested for playoffs.

I've read he's looking for a 3-4 year deal worth significant money. If he was asking for a 1 year deal, someone would have signed him already.

Dealing our guys off after signing long term contracts was going to cost us eventually other ways.

can we just trade lilja for equipment or something? Seriously, he is useless and i really hope he gets no playing time EVER. Slower than Rathje without any physical play. Need to develop young D men, which is why we are in this situation, not rely on an old dman who has never been good in his entire career.

I agree. Tough break for Andre. I think Homer will be on the phone to work out a deal with someone. Either that or else it's time for someone to manup and take his spot. Good luck with the rehab Andre.

PS Happy Birthday my South Jersey Bro Mike Trout!!

??????? Trading away three forwards that signed contract extensions caused injuries to our defenders? Not seeing the logic in this??

What this hurts the most is giving Kimmo the chance to not have to play 20+ minutes a night during the regular season. The guy is a warrior but I don't think he can last another year of it.

Meszaors was going to see more top 4 time this year IMO, and now with that out the window, they're going to lean on Timonen yet again. I just hope he doesn't break finally...
