I see that he hasn't played more than 67 games in a season, but in his time with the Blues (4 seasons), he averaged 0.4 pts per game (256 games). For comparison, Matt Carle averaged 0.44 pts per game (308 games) in his 4 seasons with the Flyers.
How is his defensive ability? Is he going to give up those backbreaking turnovers that Carle made (and forgotten about on the stat sheet by the media)?
He's decent on the power play but has gotten worse every year. Absolutely terrible in his own end and is made of glass. You do not want him.
It is absolutely imperative that Lavy shelters the defense this year now. On top of having a bottom third core now, Lavy's system has been known to be brutal on defensemen because of all the pinching and pushing the play.
As odd as it sounds, I kind of want them to stay put. There's no need to sacrifice our young forwards for a decent guy when this was looking to be a development year anyway after they missed out on Weber. They have to see what guys like Gus, Bourdon, and Manning were going to do with the big club anyway; this just forced their hand to do so.
Bourdon has reportedly been experiencing PCS until about the end of June. Until he can work out properly again and finally take some game action and being hit without experiencing a set back, he is more or less damaged good.
Bourdon has been a pleasant surprise last season showing a lot of promise but they can't really count on him right now. There is a reason why he hasn't signed an extension so far and may not be offered more than one more year when it actually happens. Rightfully so.
MAB was drafted injured and has pretty much been hurt almost every season since then. As such, I agree that they probably won't want to sign him to anything more than a one year deal to see how his body holds up and how much progress he makes. They would probably take that risk even if he turns into a top 4 D.
Is Hannan still out there? If we dont go that Im perfectly fine going with the kids. Let em play. That would then let the Phantoms get a look at some guys as well that would not normally be in their lineup. Get a good look at Kessel and some of the others

you cant win with a depleted defense it doesnt matter who plays in goal, this team is not going anywhere, unless defense gets addressed, you are refusing to look at this team of what it is and they just cant plug holes with phantom players and expect to win a cup, it cant happen
Anyone think this could be the year Coburn takes it to another level? He is entering that 27-32 age range which seems to be the prime for defenseman. He has the size, strength, skating ability, and experience to be a number one...and he has shown moments of greatness in the playoffs from time to time. I am probably just being optimistic, but it would be a huge lift for this team if he has a big year.

Does development year read like Stanley Cup team in your mind, or are you just clueless?

Well, it's certainly never been an issue of talent. The only thing that's ever held Coburn back is... Coburn. When he wants to play like a beast, he can. He just needs to stay confident and he can at least be a very good number two this year.

No such thing as a "developing year" in Flyers land. Cup or bust. thats it. And as of today with the poor goaltending and the now banged up suspect D , this team will not get a sniff unless changes are made

When they didn't get Weber, that should have been a hint that they were going to have to live with the youth and a development year. They strive to win the cup every year, but so does every team. Either way, they shouldn't even be thinking about trading Schenn, Couturier, Voracek, or Simmonds to acquire a decent aging defenseman. If someone would be willing to do a deal around Briere, I would think about it if I were Homer, but it's pretty clear that this is the team they're going to go with. It's another story if someone offers up a stud you guy for one of the aforementioned forwards.

How would you address the defense to move this team closer to winning a Cup?
I think we must overpay for a rfa that will next year take the place of timonen ...subban at 6.5 im ok with it since he will be a pretty good replacement for timonen Im from mtl and I se alot of Subban..he is a beast the only problem is his mouth (not allowed on the flyers team) and fighting (really funny when he does). So it will cost 1 first 2nd ans 3rd....not bad
Ugh. So much for the "Meszaros should improve because he'll be healthy now" school of though. ugh.
He may actually never be the same. Achilles is a big deal. Back injury is a big deal, repaired or not. A lot of it depends on how the doctors had to repair the tendon. Surgery tends to be the fastest way to recovery and the Flyers opted to do that.
For an athlete, 6 months could be playing again if the tear is decent instead of minute. It could take well over a year to get back to 100%.
