I believe it was in reference to some of his more unsavory characteristics.

Pretty hefty if you ask me.

Yeah, that's a LOT for winger with 107 career points, no matter how you slice it.

It's a little much, but with the uncertainties of the new CBA, it's a good idea to lock him up now. Plus, I think he'll prove to be worth it.

It does buyout 2 UFA years as the rules stand, keep that in mind.

Anyone hating on this deal, remember that Grabovski gets paid 5.5 mil.

How does a complete player and Selke nominee like Jordan Staal get $6M on a UFA deal, while a one-trick pony and defensive liability gets $5.75M on an RFA deal despite not having arbitration rights until 2014?

Albatross contract. Can't wait until next season when we sign Faulk for $6M/yr.

Remember that Grabovski had leverage, a 20 year old coming off a ELC has none. It's a monumentally retarded contract that's going to **** up RFA negotiations for a long time.

I'm going to ignore the offensive terminology.

Not knowing how contract negotiations are going to change under the new CBA, you have to see why Carolina would want to lock him up long term.

Plus, like I said, he's probably going to be playing with J.Staal.. He's going to put up some points. I'm happy with it.

IMO its a solid deal. I thought it would be something like 5.2 x 5 but 5.7 x 6 is decent, with 500k for the extra ufa year.

Tavares had a 121 points. The cap has went up once again, and it buys him out of 2 ufa years. Its not a great deal but not horrible either

Jeff Skinner is a good player, no doubt. But why, why, WHY would you give him that contract after his second season in the NHL? I hate to be 'that guy', but this contract is further proof that Rutherford is a below-average GM.

You beat me to it.

I think everyone should take a look at what Wideman is making.. Yeah, different positions, but still.. The more I think about it, the more I think this is a really good deal for the Canes.

Comparing Skinner's extension to Wideman's contract is not doing the former any favors.

I must have missed when Skinner was an impending UFA like Wideman

How can you compare a UFA contract to a second contract?

In which universe is this a compelling argument? News flash: if you have to compare his extension to arguably the worst UFA contract given out this summer, chances are good that the extension could have been done better.

seems a bit high to me. Could work well for the Hurricanes if he keeps developing though.
