Farmers Almanac does it all the time with some degree of success.

That's because predicting weather, in general terms, isn't very hard. You'll be right the majority of the time if you forecast hot, humid conditions with a 20% chance of afternoon rain showers in Boston in July.

If you want a former player with the credentials, Craig Billington or Claude Loiselle

That depends if you subscribe to the theory Lou will be able to hand-pick his successor or not.

Some might think I'm absolutely crazy and I don't even know where the heck he is anymore but I wouldn't mind someone like Rick Dudley

I don't see why not. Lou will never be fired, and every new ownership group has left him in the job because of the immense clout he holds, so the idea of him picking his successor isn't all that outlandish.

I don't see why you guys don't think its Conte. Hasn't it been said that he's been sought after before for GM positions?

Takes the next step this year. Emerges as a physical shut down two-way center. Also QBs the PP and logs top PK minutes..

Well it's one thing to let the legend himself have free reign, another with letting him pick the next guy who likely won't have any GM experience. Besides we could have yet another ownership group in here by the time Lou is ready to retire and who knows how that affects things.

Plus there've been rumors around here about Lou being fired or resigning the last couple of offseasons regardless I don't think we'll be hearing them this offseason though.

Conte's been apparently well-paid, probably as much as a lot of GM's. Why have a pressure cooker job where you can be fired when you can make a similar salary and have a nice, quiet life?

And maybe he just doesn't have the ambition to be a GM, or he might have left long ago anyway. Plus by the time Lou goes, Conte will be at least in his mid-60's, not exactly a long-term solution.

Conte graduated college in 1971 meaning he's 63 already.

True. I think he will at least have some input on the choice though, even if it isn't entirely left up to Lou.

My guess would be Lou's son.

Conte turned 64 this past Friday http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=33734

I expect at some point Lou steps aside from the GM job, keeping all the other titles, and will choose his successor. And it absolutely will not be Chris Lamoriello.
