I went Carolina here. was tough between them, washington and philly...washignton may have lost semin but they picked up ribeiro who is a solid player. they may be even better this year than last year.

Went with CAR because people underrate WSH because of their floppidity regular season performance in the last year and a bit and some of the goaltending issues.

If they can sort their team out and get someone solid in net (Holtby, I like Holtby), they can go back to being a good team again. They have the pieces and certainly has done it before.

CAR is new and improved but over all, I see an improvement (edit: bounce back) for the Caps that's greater than the Canes. They do have Ovechkin after all.

Edit: I think we're seriously discrediting teams left and right
A team that hasn't improved much and has possibly gotten "Less talented" is going to challenge the Flyers for the #4 spot in the power rankings

Caps, there is only so much Ovechkin can do on his own, and the Canes really improved this off season adding Staal and Semin. I believe both of those two will really play well in Carolina. Caps really did nothing to improve and lost Semin.

Carolina should've been at number eight. So I'm voting them. Again. Caps have Ovechkin, coupled with a healthy Green and Backstrom for a full season. Plus a coaching change. Might change up that "Rangers-lite" mentality they have and let that offense fly.

Green hasn't played a full season since the 07-08 season. I would be really, really surprised to see him play healthy throughout this upcoming season.

I'm actually torn between the two. I see the both of them being right next to each other.

yes. Washington downgrades wing and Carolina upgrades center. Better goalie and D in Carolina.

I voted Washington.

Since Boston won the NE, you might as well put them in the Playoff Standings.

I don't know how you could vote for Carolina over Washington here. Washington's offense is abysmal at this point, extremely shallow, and Carolina is now showing some decent depth and should produce(at least more than WSH). Also, Cam ward > Holtby. Sure Carolina defense is bad, but Washingtons is nothing to write home about either.

I went with the Flyers.

Season hasn't even started yet and their defense is a mess. They can't touch a healthy NYR or Penguins.

Of course Mr. Universe can save them....oh who am I kidding?

Flyers in sixth.

Me neither. I just don't see how Washington can get higher than where they were last season. IMHO they downgraded from last year - Semin vs Ribeiro is not an even "trade", their D is still a question mark (especially Green) as well as their goalie situation (Holtby has not proven anything yet and for now he's < Ward). And finally who knows how they are going to react to the new unproven coach (anyone remember Devils from two seasons ago).

Caps. Lose their coach and Semin, Ovie needs another massive year to get this team going.

The Caps shouldn't be ahead of Ottawa, much less Carolina.

What is different about Philly this season? Bryzgalov sucked last year. They'll put Mesaros on LTIR and use the money, like they do every year. And they just score. Maybe it's a bad formula for the playoffs but they'll trounce the bottom half of the league.

Canes.

Caps lost Semin, but added Ribiero who will be their 2nd line center. Backstrom, Ribiero, Laich, Beagle. Strong down the middle. Holtby showed he can be a very good NHL goalie with his performances in the playoffs.

They are higher on my list than Carolina. I do not understand the fascination with the Hurricanes being a top 5 EC team. It does not make any sense to me. Semin was a player nobody wanted for more than 1 year. How is he going to play in Carolina? He's talented, but can be very immature and inconsistent.
