I'm a journalism student entering my third and (hopefully) final year at Concordia. I also work for a video game company as a localization tester. Basically, I test French text and audio and make sure the translation from English is good. It's the easiest job in the world if you're decent in both languages.

how long did it take you? My wife has passed all the tests for now 6 years and still no offers. She refused to past all the tests this year cause it was becoming a joke, just wondering how long it took you to finally get in? + the job cutting made her decision easier

I came in as a student so I didnt have to do the external process. It is really competitive, there is a lot of applicants. The average time frame right now is 3 years to get in but the new process should (but probably wont) take 1 year. I wouldnt worry that much about the cuts because lot of ports are in need of New officers, especially billingual ones.

She passed all of her exams in 2007 and until this year had no offers. It's really long

Family doctor residency.

You can say it wasn't for me and I went in mostly to please my parents. You can say I finally had the guts to stand up for myself.

I just didn't like it to be honest and finally had the guts to tell my parents. I don't consider them waste years as I finally got myself liberated and can't wait to start the new chapter in my life.

It must really be difficult to wean yourself from being an English teacher in Japan, which is a bit of an exalted status. A lot of those teachers never make the return trip, it seems. I lived there 5 years, doing research in Tsukuba. I think that I was the original Japan-based expat on these boards, when my username was JapanMontrealExpat.

I'm a graphic designer and medical illustrator in a Montreal hospital (we'll be moving soon when construction is finished *hint hint*...). I also write and record music for corporate videos my coworkers produce. I love my job, but my real dream is to become a pilot and I hope to finally get my license so I can move my family to the carribean and work as a plane/taxi, hopping from island to island... I guy can dream, right?

Pretty cool! I'm not an expert in this field, but I've always been fascinated by anything that has to do with space, stars, planets and time.

You still have what, 60-70 years to live, right? You still have time, and you always have a choice... I did my grad school in my thirties. My mother did her Bachelor's degree, part-time, in her 50s and early 60s. You need to find your one thing that excites you and that you're good at. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2k1uOqRb0HU

Commercial insurance broker, yay! As a commissioned sales guy, the pay is good and I get to make my own schedule which is nice but sometimes it is hard to stay motivated.

I am also a part time musician, actor, and director, working with a couple of buddies who have a production company. Still trying to live the dream and make it in the entertainment business but it is hard when you have a full time job, wife and kids .
