I like that deal for Carolina. They are about to have a really huge season, good to get it done now.

So do I, good deal for both sides. Skinner is one of my favorite players. The guy plays with a ton of passion. Hopefully he can avoid getting another concussion, at least in the near future.

Way too much for Skinner. He had 1 good season and cashed in. Guess we'll see if Carolina wants to trade him in a couple years after he under performs.

He has two really good centers to play with as well as Semin. He is going to put up a big point total this year.

Disagree, he can easily out perform that contract. I think he would have had another great year without the concussion last year.

Well for GMJR's sake, I sure hope he does.

Maybe too much for Skinner, though the Canes seem to be of the opinion that their best chance is right now, so they want to try to win.

And they've certainly gone up in my books to the point where I'm likely going to have them as a playoff team in my preseason predictions.

And...

Maybe, though a bigger question would be if all of them want to stay on if Edmonton doesn't start having real improvement soon. If we're still talking about the Oilers "rebuild" when they start hitting their free agency period, they might very well be interested in testing the free agency waters and going to an actual contender. And if Eberle decides to go, it'd probably open the floodgates for Hall, RNH, and maybe even Yakupov to jump ship when their turns come in successive years.

Skinner's already a great player and seems to get better every game he plays in the NHL. Contract is on the high side for him right now but one or two years in, I don't think people will still be saying that.

Canes are going to be a fun team to watch next season.

That team certainly has some skill up front. They have the brothers, Semin, and Skinner. And we have all seen what Ward can do when he is on in the blue paint. They could be a very, very good team this year. Only concern is that defense.

"that defense" has a long way to go before Carolina is a playoff team. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia dont have a defense either but they have a lot more scoring power.

Carolina has to beat out atleast one of NYR, PHI, PIT, NJ, BOS, OTT, TBL, WSH, FLR, BUF, and WPG.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them squeak in as a 7/8 seed but they still aren't a good enough team.

NJ, FLA, BUF, and WPG won't be hard to pass. Especially NJ

FLA will miss the playoffs this year, if they don't get Luongo.
BUF will make the playoffs, and probably challenge for the division.
NJ will be a borderline team, losing Parise hurts big time.
WPG is probably not a playoff team.

CAR will probably challenge for their division with Washington, ultimately finishing 6th.

I don't like the contract for Skinner on it's own, but I think it sends a good message to the league (players and agents) that they are serious about competing again. I think Skinner made a little more so they can sign FAs for a little less the next couple offseasons.

I don't like the contract for just Skinner but I like the move in the context of everything else. I think the SE will be a fun one to follow this year.

Hey folks. Coming in peace here.

Just been reading some bizarre stuff in the Trade forum (I know, I know...) and I just wanted to ask Hawks fans a question:

Who is your #1 dman, Keith or Seabrook? And why?

Just trying to make sense of something, I'm not proposing anything and you won't see threads like: Ballard + Raymond + 2nd for Keith!!!!!11!!one! appearing anywhere because of this, I promise.

Please and thank-you.

Keith is the #1 defenseman on the Hawks.

Some people would call Keith the 1b, but the bolded statement is absolutely correct.

Played a shinny game with Danny Richmond. Even with some college players on the ice, he was like Wayne Gretzky.

Ya, we had a couple JR'C players with us, and they looked like crap.

I don't even think McKegg was trying and he was dangling by everyone. Pretty cool.

So much for him finding his way back to the NHL.... honestly thought that some team would've taken a chance at the league minimum to sign him for their backup.
