End of 2, 4-3 Blue.

Few random thoughts/updates on our guys:

Miller - Intelligence was on display, I am biased but I thought he was one of the smartest players on the ice and one of the best at using his teammates. So many guy skate into the zone, try to dangle, shoot the puck high glove, and then repeat. So many. Miller does not. Worked the half boards on the PP well, setting up the points or cycling where appropriate. Also so good at making the right breakout pass 99% of the time, or carrying the puck in when appropriate - knows how to get the puck up ice. When he wasn't doing that he continued to crash and bang.

Fogarty - On his last shift of the period scored the Blue team's 4th goal with an absolute laser of a snipe, high glove, from the high slot. Straddled the line to stay onside and took a great pass in stride. Other than that, with a lot of PP and PK time, Fogarty really saw reduced minutes. Spent some time on the PK, winning a few key draws and displaying his improved coverage abilities. Did look a bit tentative out there though, I would have liked to see a little more aggression at times. Hopefully the goal can build his confidence.

Fairly uneventful 3rd for our guys, Blue wins 4-3.

15 seconds to go, on the PP, Miller is taking the offensive zone draw. Boxes out the other Center and wins it cleanly back to Biggs who rips a shot just wide.

Hockey USA has 17 D in camp. They dress 7 per game per team. 3 sit out. Trouba didn't scrimmage on Saturday. The people running the team know what Skjei,Trouba and Jones can do. They need to find out more about the players who weren't part of the US program in Michigan.

The scrimmages against the opposing countries start today.

USA Hockey is expected to make roster cuts after the scrimmages against Sweden and Finland today. Lucia had a hat trick for team blue against the Swedes. Kuraly scored again. Miami freshman in the fall.

They have 17 D and 24 forwards in camp.

Skjei and Miller make the cut. Fogarty? He scored a goal. That's more than most of the other forwards did.

Fogarty is on the borderline. Depends on how many forwards they keep.

Two games with Finland and 1 game with Sweden this week.

Do we have anyone on Sweden? Andersson?

Previous page - RangerBoy posted a link that says that Andersson was not invited to the camp and he's not going to play in the upcoming championship.

Andersson was not invited to the Swedish camp which was July 29-August 2. They brought this group to Lake Placid.

USA Hockey is going to cut down the U.S. roster tonight, not sure on final number, but expect it to be in the low 20s. Tough decision
https://twitter.com/chrismpeters/sta...08497047588864

Fogarty's BCHL teammates Mario Lucia(Wild) and Mike Reilly(Columbus)had good camps. Reilly is a Minnesota incoming freshman D along with Skjei. Fogarty and Lucia are going to Notre Dame. Lucia's father Don is head coach at Minnesota.

Honestly if I were a betting man I would bet on Fogarty being cut. He had flashes but was not the type of consistent force you need to be to make the WJC team as a non-NTDP product, IMO. Not really a knock on him, there is a ton of good talent in this camp.

If he has a good start at ND he could definitely play himself onto a 3rd/4th line center role though at Winter camp. It was encouraging seeing how much his game has changed, just 1 year removed from playing HS hockey. Much better defensively and much better at learning how to work within a structure as opposed to the (at times) one man show he was with Edina.

Finally, an NCAA conditioning program will do wonders for him. He has great hockey sense but physically needs to mature - both speed and bulk. From what I could tell from a crummy internet feed he had by far the biggest case of "chicken legs" among the invitees; ND's training regimen should really help him put on the right kind of mass that should hopefully also help his skating.

Fogarty survived last night's cuts which trimmed the roster from 45 to 34. 19 forwards left.

Notables Cut:
Henrik Samuelsson (PHX)
Jordan Schmaltz (STL)
Brian Hart (TBL)
Robbie Russo (NYI)

Miller may not be putting up the points but he has improved his game in the last year. http://unitedstatesofhockey.com/2012...ite-vs-sweden/

Fogarty has a chance to show what he can do in the 3 games coming up this week. Have to figure he plays in 2 of the 3. 19 forwards in camp. From: @chrismpeters

I'm tempted to pay for the stream of the game today.

Also of note, the line of Tyler Biggs-Steven Fogarty-Stefan Matteau. That's a lot of size and muscle. Very intriguing combo. #NJEC

1-1 after 1 in Lake Placid. Thought Matt Grzelcyk had a really nice period, as did Gostisbehere. Matteau-Fogarty-Biggs works well, too

Matteau scored for the US

Good drive to net by Biggs and Fogarty creating chances in tight allowing Stefan Matteau to poke in a rebound. 1-0 USA

Fogarty didn't get an assist on the Matteau goal.

Decided to pay for the stream today. Fogarty looked solid, he won the draw that led to the only U.S goal. Skjei got some PP time, but he had a miserable period.

I'm watching, will write up a few comments afterwards.

Fogarty has looked much better today, Peters is right that line is clicking. Fogarty won a big faceoff and created a chance driving to the net.

Also Miller seems like a great fit with Galchenyuk and Gaudreau thus far. He's opening up space yet is still able to keep up with them mentally in terms of making smart passes and positioning himself to get pucks back.

I think miserable is a bit strong. He had 2 turnovers from making poor decisions off the rush. I thought he looked good on the PP and made good decisions on when to pinch.

Probably but I was expecting more from him so I guess I was a little dramatic. He settled down nicely this period. Also, Matteau just missed an open net. I hope his line continues to look good, would absolutely help Fogartys chances of making the team.

Miller just set someone up beautifully at the end of the period, I think it was Gostisbehere. He didn't finish though.

Also had a beauty cross-ice pass to Gaudreau in the same shift.

But yea that was a great feed. Honestly, it may sound ridiculous but that one pass can sum up why I really like Miller as a prospect:

He collected the puck against the right boards 4ft inside the blueline. 2 other forwards swoop to the net. The left d pinches in, slaps his stick, and 99% of players would force the puck to him. Miller realizes the passing lane across is covered, holds the puck for an extra second, and sets up Gostisbehere (what a name haha) who is a late-crashing right dman flying into the zone across the blue line. Gostisbehere has a wide open lane into the right slot and gets a great chance.

Really smart player for as good of a grinder / physical player as he is.

USA rolling a line of Gaudreau-Galchenyuk-JT Miller today vs. Finland. As of now, could see that as a plausible top line for the US in DEC.
