Meltzer saying one way deal. I have only seen one person say it was a two way deal and they are not that reliable.

what does this mean for Laughton? What happens if/when he doesn't make the team? He's too young to play in the ahl amiright?

Wouldnt be surprised if their looking at Laughton to fill in the 4th c spot like Couturier did last year.

IMHO the Laughton deal is more because of fears of the new CBA then him getting a shot at camp.

Haha oh jeez. Ok. I stand by what I said. One way makes the most sense to me.

Correct, he cannot play AHL. It just means he will get a shot at camp. If he doesn't make the club his contract will slide and he'll play Juniors.

They was speculation that the Flyers really liked what they saw from him in rookie camp. He has a shot to make the 4th line center job possibly, but Lappy even said he needs to go back to juniors for another year or two. I would be surprised if he makes the team. And yes he can not play in the AHL.

Anyone know how a lockout affects Laughton's ability to do the 9 game gig? I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a date where he has to be returned to his Junior team?

Or if there is a lockout, cold he play his Juniors season, then come up for a 9-game cup of coffee afterwards?

Break... pump it. Let's see how he looks in camp/pre-season, then talk about a 9-game audition... then talk about the season afterwards.

Who knows when we start playing anyhow.

That would be a poor move. Unlike Couturier who dominated his league for two years (and had the extra year of experience), Laughton is still developing his offensive game and the lack of ice time would wreck him. Let him go back to Oshawa for at least another year and give him a chance to dominate. Let him play 20 minutes a night. Let him play the powerplay. Let him possibly get a chance to play at the WJC's. Let him mature.

There isn't a date, but once he is returned to juniors he cannot come back up until his junior season is over (regular season + playoffs). If there is a lockout he'll get sent back. He is not ready.

This explains exactly what I suggested. Bourdon wants to be in the NHL. He held out, and even took less money, for a one-way deal.

If MAB can stay healthy, it would be great to see him get consistent time playing in the NHL. Sadly though if he plays 3rd pairing he'll be stuck with Gervais, Gus, Lilja, Manning, if/when Mez comes back or other which could spell for some scary 3rd pairing ice time.

I like that Laughton is under contract, but as others have pointed out, he's best served going back to Oshawa and playing 20 minutes a night. He's going to be the top center there (Boone Jenner is actually being moved to the wing to accommodate Laughton being the top center). I see a similar jump in scoring much like Cousins when he was placed as the top center in Sault Ste. Marie. I'm kind of disappointed that Laughton wasn't an invite to the WJC summer camp, but if he plays well enough, then I can see an invite to the WJC camp in early December.

If Laughton makes the team then that says how far along he is.

But i'd like him to go back to the OHL for at least this year to work on his offensive skills. He will be the top dog in Oshawa.

Wonder why Laughton's contract needed to be done now, unless the Flyers think the new CBA would cost them more, or won't get 3 years out of it.

I'm personally assuming they were more comfortable dealing with this current CBA instead of waiting for the new one; seems like a fairly safe move to me. Maybe Homer knows something about the negotiations/CBA direction we don't, or maybe they just prefer to deal with what they know while they know it.

Homer: "So...Marc-Andre... I hear you want to play in the NHL so badly you would go so far as to hide a concussion. So, here is the contract offer. One way. You stand a good chance of being in the NHL consistently... but you're going to make less! Mhwaha."

MAB: " Okay."

This is what i was thinking. he's obviously older then Laughton and is thus much further along in his development. he put up some good numbers last year so i could see him being the camp "surprise" so to speak. I do think he will eventually make the transition to wing at the pro level.

We shouldn't be wasting a contract year on him unless he looks like Couturier out there. Let him develop for at least 1 more year if not more.

You see Cousins in a 4th line center role? Never really pictured him in that situation before. 3rd line agitator on the wing maybe who can chip in some offense, not so much 4th line center. Holmstrom definitely.
