Mangene.

I love his versatility. Also he is in Meltzers top 10 so I will be his sheep on this one. Plus when we sign guys out of college who are undrafted and named Matt it tends to work out well.

All of my top 20 is now on the voting list, but I have Placek at 21 so I guess I'd vote to add him.

Akeson.

Stolarz is far away from being what I would even call a prospect. More of a long long term project-into-prospect.

Let me use an analogy.

If Stolarz's progress were your birth (conception to 9 months), we would be between the point where your father is finally sober enough to drive and your mother is doing jumping jacks in her room trying to get rid of you.

Went with Johnston, I feel like he's either going to be a surprise homerun, or a complete strikeout. It's pretty much a crapshoot at this point, give or take Stolarz.

Also, can Clapperton be added? Thx
Edit: nvm about Clapperton, he was a camp invite and isn't under contract yet, so still technically a FA.

No love for Holmstrom? His ceiling isn't high at all, but I think he could step in and be effective on the fourth line.

But if that's his ceiling, then he's not a better prospect than those you hope are 2nd-3rd line players.

Stolarz has to get on here. We just drafted him in the 2nd round. Those guys aren't middling prospects just hoping to stick on the radar. The timeline is far, far down the line, but that doesn't make him any worse of a prospect.

I also factored in his ability to reach his ceiling. Yes, it's not that high, but you know he'll reach it.

He's 25 and doesn't project to be any more than a borderline player. He is a non-prospect.

This season is pretty much his last chance to reach it. Next year Cousins will likely be up, and Laughton the year after that. One or both of them will get 4C time in their first seasons, unless they explode onto the scene and slide up a bit more...then Talbot will be the 4C (unless we sign someone). Ben needs to have a great camp.

The thing about Stolarz is that he was projected as a late round pick this year, and we supposedly reached for him in the 2nd round. The Flyers certainly saw something that nobody else did, but if Stolarz was drafted where he was ranked in this year's draft, he probably wouldn't even be in the poll yet.

I think he was the 4th rated goaltender in the draft. He still should be in the list. like some of the picks made by the Flyers late in the draft.

You're right. For some reason, I thought he was down near 7-9. At any rate, Dansk and Vasilevski are definitely better prospects so that puts him at the 6th best goaltender according to those rankings, and he was 4th off the board.

With that reasoning neither should Gostibehere. He was supposedly a "reach" in the third. Not that I agree with it being a so-called "reach."

I've noticed a bit of a pattern here where people tend to highly value the guys we just drafted over the guys that have been in the system a few years. I'm not commenting whether or not they are right or wrong, I'm just noticing that it happens. As an example, last year Placek was getting votes in the top 10, over guys who are now in the NHL and it was based on a few highschool prep league games.

Edit- sorry it was actually at 11 he started getting votes.

Gostibehere has shown an above average skill set playing in the NCAA. Stolarz is much harder to project. He had a good year playing at a low level of competition after he was released from another league where he struggled.

4th rated goaltender in North America not the draft. big difference.

I believe Ghost just made the WJC team too. Still plenty of hockey to play before he can participate but it looks like he beat out some big names for a spot on the 3rd pairing. From what i've read he's looking real good early on even getting top unit pp time.

They don't choose the team for quite a while. But from what I read on twitter he played well in the camp that is/was being held and he has an inside track at making it.
