Lol.. That would be horrible for Edmonton. Sekera is crap.

To be fair, so was Magnus last year.

Gagner for Enroth makes a lot of sense IMO though...

Getting really sick of debunking this.....Sekera was the best dman on the team last year, better then Myers, Ehrhoff, and Regehr. Great stats and second best Qualcomp on the team, behind his defensive partner. Also lit up worlds offensively, partnered with Chara.

I think Sekera and Myers are the only two that for sure wouldn't be on the move. I like Sekera more then I like Myers.

As much as I like sekera, he is most likely to move on the team, had a very good year last year in both worlds and the NHL (for different reasons, which is hilarious IMO), great contract, signed for 3 more years, relatively young, in the deepest position on our team and in our system. Unfortunately it only makes sense.

Easy no from Edmonton. RNH is worth a lot more than anyone else in this deal. Think Seguin+, Eberle+, Tavares- type value

I played floor hockey with Eklund back at the 2009 Entry Draft in Montreal. He looks like Vigo the Carpathian from Ghostbusters 2.

Yup, on HF an eight point game is a minus against you.

And yet he totally turned Shania Twain down, yup, totally did, like for real guys. She was all "Make love to me!" and he was all, "you wish".

Not enough for Edmonton to trade RNH.

On the flip side, probably not enough for Buffalo to trade Myers either.

What would Buffalo want for Regehr and Pysyk or just Regher. I would love to have Regehr get some payback on the Flames for all those years he was laying out Edmonton's players.

To Buffalo: Ryan Jones or Curtis Hamilton

To Edm: Robin Regehr

He'd probably dislocate Hemsky's shoulder in the first practice out of force of habit.

The only "top-6" player Edmonton would be trading is Sam Gagner. You're insane if you think there's even a slight chance the Oilers trade RNH or Eberle, even if the return was Myers+.

So being a successful shutdown defenseman is the same thing as bouncing between the NHL and AHL and in and out of the lineup?

I'd trade something for Gagner, and something less for Belanger. What would Oilers want for either?

For Buffalo, this doesn't make a lot of sense either. They lose their top d-man, backup goaltender to add to a position where they are already pretty stacked.
How does this help Edmonton in team building? It opens up a massive hole in the one position that is probably the hardest to fill outside of a top end draft choice.

I would say that of all the Oilers RNH holds the most value to the team and is perhaps by a fair margin the last guy they would deal, so I agree with the latter part of your post..

Doubtful that Edmonton trades two young forwards for more 2nd pairing/potential defenseman. They already have Smid, Petry, N.Schultz, Whitney, Potter, Sutton, and Peckham on one way contracts. Plus Justin Schultz as well. Pysyk is a Peckham/Tuebert/Plante clone

As crappy as Gagner is because of his 8 point game he's really the Oilers only option as a 2c.

Pysyk's defensive abilities come more from his phenomenal skating (Duncan Keith comparisons in his draft year) than any of the three you listed, although his physical game has improved significantly between 2010 and now.

If we do that Horcoff is our 2nd line centre. Only way I can see us trading Gagner is in a package for a bigger 2nd line centre, easier said than done.

I'm just going off of what I watched last year. His physical game improved and thats what I see as his future role(will be decent at many things but not great at one in particular) He doesnt have the offensive instincts to be a QB on the backend.
Either way the Oilers have Klefbom, Schultz,Marincin who are better prospects, and Musil/Gernat are equal or close to it.
The Oilers currently have a weak defense, but the future isnt so bad thats why this trade makes no sense.

For those that are claiming Sekera is such an undeniable stud at 26 whereas Paajarvi is an in and out the lineup player of no value at 21 I think you should perhaps take a look at the kids talent level and his potential. I'm surprised their has been so much pumping of this Sekera ghost yet the pummeling of a player because he put up 8 points in one game last year. Like it wasn't a glimpse of his potential in a young and talented kids future. Some of the Sabres fans are asking for the world for some aged players here. Sekera had a real breakout year last year didn't he?

I get he's a shutdown D-man but we've got an identical player in Smid. We need a top four puck mover. I just don't see a centerpiece like Gagner plus the high potential of Paajarvi being offered in return here.

Discussing the value of both Hopkins and Myers here is misleading as they are not being dealt. The "rumour" does make Gagner and MPS sound like the Oil candidates but Sekera to me just isn't that significant. At least not significant to replace the potential lost here. Unless of course Foligno was that other prospect coming our way and I know how that would sit with Sabre fans.
