This is not Carolina. Seguin isn't going to get overpaid. That's not how Chiarelli operates.

He gave Chris Kelly 3M and Peverley 3.25M. Those are 3rd liners, so he will overpay his guys.

I'd die laughing if that happened with how quickly Seguin would be viewed as a below average #2C

Right now? Jeff Skinner contract looks good. Slightly less as skinner did it twice, seguin had 1 big year.

He'll still be both cheaper and better than Gomez.

On the open market, they would have got more.

Yes, but Kessel's a PPG in the post season. 15 points in 15 games vs. Seguin's 10 points in 20 games.

Kelly scored 20 goals, kills penalties and is a leader. I think Kelly is better than both Stoll and Gaustad who both got 3.25 from their teams. But my point was that Chia doesn't overpay.

As for the Kessel being benched comment, it was just a reminder to the Leaf fan that Seguin is not the only rookie to get benched in the Playoffs.

So what? All i am trying to say is that rookies get benched during the playoffs.

I remember believing Chia overpaid for Lucic when he got his deal...then he hit 30 goals. He knows what he's doing, smart man.

Fair enough on 2nd part.

I think he has a plan, and doesn't let pressure sidetrack him.

He won't make a deal just to make a deal. He also is a loyal GM.

I don't think Seguin, Hall, Eberle deserve anymore than Tavares. All three of them have improved over their rookie seasons(where as Skinner did not). I don't see any of them being too difficult to re-sign for 5.5 - 5.75/6 years

My guess is 3-4 years at 5-5.5 per... take him to last year of RFA... if he pots 35+ or hits 80 points next year, that number will be bumped to 6 per year...

I don't expect him to do that next year, but it's possible one of those 2 things occur.

3 years at fair money, $5-6 million a year.

Chierreli is good at negotiates so I doubt the 6-7 the op suggested is even a possibility. Also skinner had two years to show what he had, seguin only showed his star in the making side this season. I guess the cup games where he lifted the b's beyond Tampa might play a huge impact, but not so much he's gunna get 7

No he doesn't deserve $7 million, even if him signing is a couple of years on from these.
In comparison to the Tavares contract, Skinner doesn't deserve his AAV either. That's like saying Giroux is only getting 3.75/season therefore all lesser players have that as a cap; you can't use a fantastic deal as a comparable for the rest of the league.

How much do Pevvy and Kelly get on the open market? Do a little research and re-think your statement.
