Detroit is talking to Calgary about Bouwmeester

Quote:
A team source confirmed the Red Wings are talking with the Calgary Flames about making a deal for veteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, who has been the subject of trade rumors for more than a month.
Quote:
Wideman's contract hiked Calgary's payroll to $66.6 million, which is under the $70.2 million salary cap. But if the cap is reduced as expected when a new collective bargaining agreement is reached, that could force the Flames to dump salary and the possibility might reduce their asking price for Bouwmeester.
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index....-+MLive.com%29

Cap is reduced. The NHL has proposed reducing the cap. Its a matter of working out the numbers. Everyone expects the cap to decrease from $70.2M so the Rangers will not have as much money as some people here are projecting. The Rangers still need to re-sign DZ.

Exactly. Boyle's been the 3rd line center for two years now. Nothing's changed.

That's not good for Calgary, up against the cap and they're such a mediocre 8th seed at best team. They needed to blow that team up.

A sale might get done with Jamison and Phoenix.

Heard Jamison hard at work last two days securing final investors and that the sale will get done! Chances of Doan staying now much greater

Exactly, why would he take a 1 or 2 year deal to play here? He wants stability for him and his family.

Considering some of the people they have allowed to buy teams over the years, for them to allow this would not exactly be a huge stretch. They are so desperate to get rid of the Coyotes, they'd let ANYONE buy them.

Nope.

Boyle finished 4th among centers in ESTOI.

Richards
Anisimov
Stepan
Boyle

The season opened with Boyle centering the 4th line.

Dubinsky-Richards-Gaborik
Fedotenko-AA-Callahan
Wolski-Stepan-MZA
Prust-Boyle-Rupp

As of now, he's the 3rd line center.....

That's called a promotion.

Anisimov played the majority of his games on the wing though, I think you'll have a hard time convincing anyone that he was our #2 C last year.

Boyle is up for UFA in 2014. So are the guys who actually have skill. Kreider is an RFA.

So yeah, hopefully Boyle goes. By that time one of the younger centers should be ready to take over.
Did you just say Prust sucked? Really?

I would say Prust is an elite 4th line player or average 3rd liner. He is a defensive, hard-nosed forward. Any offense he brings is a plus.

Prust was a terrific player for what he was. A great team guy, a fighter, a PK guy... He's a nice 3rd liner. He just got wildley overpaid - great for Prust and a loss for NYR... No need to hate on a guy who performed well and gave 110%

Fun-loving and hustling don't always equate to skill and production.

If there was a Hart Trophy for hustle, grit and blah blah blah, then sure, Prust and Boyle will get my vote.

Fans become too attached to players. This is a business with a bottom line, and the rangers run it like a business with a bottom line by treating the players like contracted employees.

Prust and Boyle had an odd chemistry, but life goes on. The rangers have a prospect arsenal of skill forwards who will get a shot to hopefully knock Boyle down to the 4th line until he's let go/traded.

Anisimov played wing for most of last season.

Boyle was the defacto #3 center for the majority of last year, and got 3rd line minutes, primarily against the opposition's top forwards.

But I wouldnt expect you to let facts get in the way of your misguided Boyle hate.

Didnt score many goals/points = sucked.

Unfortunately thats how far too many people gauge a hockey player. Value is assigned in very black and white terms. Its silly in general, and particularly silly when you're using that criteria to evaluate a bottom 6 forward.

This guy must've loved the rosters of the late 90's/early 2000's. Guys that put up points throughout the careers, didnt want to play a lick of defense, and on a team with no clear-cut roles that generally consist of a winning hockey team.

Virtually nobody here agrees with you. Rangers management certainly doesnt agree with you.

Normally that might get someone to re-evaluate their position on a player. Not you, I bet.

According to NHL.com Brian was 13th on the entire Rangers team last year in terms of TOI. 5 d-men were ahead of him. Were you trying to skew and show the stats so that they would support your argument?

All I want to know is who will take Prust's spot at the end of the game High Five celebration between Boyle, MDZ and Prust!

Anisimov is a better player than Boyle.

Boyle was the 4th line center entering camp and on Opening Night. Anisimov was the 2nd line center.

Where is PHX going? You keep hearing about the team moving. Where? Quebec doesn't have a new building ready to go. Quebec City is a small city. Can they afford to support an NHL team? The building in Markham,Ontario won't be ready until late 2014. Doan wants to stay in PHX. He would have signed somewhere in July if he didn't care about staying in PHX. With the impending lockout,Doan can wait for a while until Jamison completes the sale of team. Its going to take a miracle for the season to open on time. Is the stuff with other teams in the East real or is the agent using them to drive up the price on Vancouver if PHX doesn't get sold. Dave Maloney said on the EDM station podcast(Nash trade and Sauer was discussed) he didn't see Doan as a fit in NY from people he has spoken with which probably includes brother Don. Maloney said Weber wanted no part of NY and he couldn't see Doan playing here. Suter wanted no part of NY or any big market US teams. Not many people believed it when Poile and Eaves said it. Doan owns a ranch in PHX. Not a lot of room for horses in Manhattan. Family? Lifestyle? They will be more comfortable in PHX or in British Columbia than moving to the east. If its about the family or lifestyle and not one last money grab if PHX doesn't work out? Cerny had a chat yesterday. He felt the asking price and Doan's desire to stay in PHX were reasons why Doan won't be here. The pro-Doan crowd haven't explained how fits into the cap in the next CBA. The cap drops and is set at $64.3M using the NBA model and is kept there for 2 seasons, where are the Rangers finding the space to keep their group IIs next summer? The season beginning in late December will still have enough time for 60 game season. The Rangers will need to shed a big contract to keep their current players.

I know many will disagree with me, but I think JBo to Detroit makes A LOT of sense and I think he can regain his 40-50 point form there.

and we would have moved dubi and anisimov first cause it makes more sense from the cap standpoint. this year boyle and anisimov make basically the same, but artie gets a raise next summer. from a cap standpoint you pretty much had to include them both
