Anyone with the ability to pass will flourish on a line with kovy. Only problem is who becomes the primary forechecker if we put a skill guy in that spot? It's not really kovy or zajac's specialty.

There would definitely be a hole. On the first line, that shouldn't be Kovy or Zajac's responsibility.

Are there any second line caliber wingers that have speed to forecheck and hands to pass that we can stick with Kovy on the first line?

Elias would be great there, but I don't think we want to put all our eggs in one basket. Plus with Kovy-Zajac and then Elias-Henrique, you have a pretty good 1-2 punch.

I think one of zubrus and clarkson ends up on the top line anyway whether we sign someone or not. I'd like to add more skill to the 2nd line, then put whichever of the two remains on the third line as a veteran presence for what will undoubtedly be a line with teddy and yayo

To be completely honest, I think I prefer Kovalchuk-Henrique and Elias-Zajac as our 1-2 punch.

Totally agree. With our present roster I think we're best suited rolling the best 2-way line we can with Elias-Zajac-Zubrus taking every hard faceoff and then Kovy-Henrique-Clarkson/??/Tedenby? getting the favorable matchups/zone starts.

He is getting old, and I agree that SJ will have some trouble if they try to unload him. He's almost like Elias, their Patty lifer.

I'm surprised he hasn't been able to find any worthwhile offers in the NHL.

Seriously, Elias and Marleau have many things in common.

Butler has four offers from Eastern Conference teams, according to his dad.

i'd prefer to keep zajac with kovy, especially if clarkson ends up on his line. his defensive skill would help make up for kovy's less than optimal skill in that regard even strength.

Do you think he'd be serviceable on the third line?

I think that either way Kovalchuk will see time playing with both Zajac and Henrique.

Butler could be a terrific third liner and can play in the top six in a pinch. Ottawa Has Zibanejad, Stone, Petersson, Silfverberg, etc coming into the fold, though, so I think that played a major role in letting him go.

I'd be really happy to bring in Butler. If we could bring him in cheap and bring Sykora back cheap, I'd be fine to start with that for the season.

NHLInsiders reported the Preds offered 4/28 or 30 for Doan. Unreal

That's bizarre. I guess that's how you benefit from being a good player in a dry free agent crop.

I'd take Butler for sure. His speed gave our D fits in 10-11 when they were going for the miracle comeback. It seems like he plays the Pete DeBoer kind of game.

There is no feasible replacement through FA for that guy that went to Minnesota.

So unless we make a trade, which we should, Butler makes sense as bottom 6 depth.
