Redwings and Flames in talks about Bouwmeester.

Can't post the link on my phone. If someone could hook that up for me. It was on TSN.

And...discuss.

Kind of a weird move considering that Feaster wants to compete, but I'd imagine it'd have to include an addition to the Flames top six of some kind.

Franzen++, imo.

Or Filppula, much to Detroit fans chagrin.

Makes sense that the RW would want JBo but is Calgary still in denial about needing to do a rebuild? They need prospects back IMO, and Detroit isn't exactly flourishing in that department.

Yikes...if that's what the Flames are looking for, I'd hang up the phone if I was Ken Holland.

Please do a little research on Detroit's prospect pool. Thanks

Don't want Franzen. It's gotta be for a center.

So Detroit without this trade starts the season as a second tier team on their way down or that's more a move to put in them in a position of contention (1st tier)?

Haha. This is such crap. Really, TSN? You actually posted an article based on an Mlive news post? The Mlive article itself was mentioning a supposed Calgary team source that was cited by the blogger who started this rumor.

With or without this trade, the Wings need Brendan Smith and one (or both) of Nyquist and Brunner to have very solid rookie seasons to have any chance at a deep playoff run.

The only thing that makes sense is Filppula. He plays centre, and is a top six forward - we need a proven top six centre, which we do not have. The problem is, we have enough guys ready to compete in the top six as it is:

Iginla, Tanguay, Cammalleri, Glencross, Hudler, Cervenka, Backlund, Stempniak, Baertschi....

... only Cammy and Cervenka could play the centre position - and I'd rather not play Cammy there long-term; it's too big of a question mark.

Bouwmeester / Glencross for Filppula / Ericsson / Tatar?

Furthermore, Red Wings fans: has Filppula ever played with Hudler?

So Detroit is missing the playoffs

But I think Bouwmeester for 1st 2013, 1st 2014 and 2nd 2013 would do I guess

I will repeat again that this article is based on an Mlive article that was itself quoting an unknown source.

I've wondered about that myself. Maybe something like Filppula & Abdelkader for Bouwmeester and Stempniak. Calgary adds a center and a bottom 6 grinder, Detroit adds a top pairing defenceman and a top 6 winger.

Makes sense and has for some time. I could see it happening. The Red Wings need a top-four guy like Bouwmeester; he'd make Detroit a lot better and he'd be on their top-pairing. He can eat a ton of minutes and could get back some of his offensive game (Detroit might be just the place to do it). Again, as has been repeated before over and over again, Jay Bouwmeester gets a lot of flack around here and is truly underrated. He's not what he was in Florida but certainly isn't as bad or less valuable than some say he is around here (he gets a lot of hate because he's a Flame, unfortunately).

I have no idea what Calgary would want in return, but if they could get Filppula, I bet they'd pounce on that. Not sure Detroit would want to give him up; I know I wouldn't if I was a Wings fan.

Detroit has almost too many prospects, and will have an issue with giving them the playing time they need at the AHL level. Embarrassment of riches, indeed.

Filppula has played a lot with Hudler over the years, both 3rd line and top6.

I could see a deal centered around Fil if the Wings are really keen on getting J-bo. It's a gamble for us offensively(gotta hope prospects pan out), but fills a huge hole defensively.

Fil and Huds have great chemistry but you can be all but assured that Holland will not include Fil in any kind of deal for J-Bo.

If the Wings get Bouwmeester and miss the playoffs, does that mean the curse is confirmed?

It would have to be something based around Filppula. It's tricky though, because Filppula is a UFA to be. Seemingly he'd re-sign with DET, so he may have more valuable to them then he would in a trade to CGY.

Filppula have played with Hudler yes. Not sure if I really want DRW to part with Filppula though. It wouldn weaken our top 6 too much...

Is Bouwmeester great at PK-ing and overall defense? If he is a bit unproductive on the the offensive, that would not be a big issue, we need some stalwart in our own end.
