Detroit's need for a top line D-man along with the availability of those d-men gives Calgary the leverage. Detroit's going to be way worse off not replacing Lidstrom and Stuart in some way.

Calgary's not going to be a lock for playoffs even if they get Fillpula AND Franzen so why give J-Bo away if Detroit offers less than that? Sure the cap relief is nice, but Detroit should have to give up a decent return to fill their hole in D, not take Calgary to the cleaners.

By how much do you think the cap would go down by?

And also, almost assuredly, if the cap went down by more than a couple million dollars, teams would be granted amnesty buyouts. The Flames have $3.5M in cap space.

Franzen's not worthless, but he's worthless to the Flames. An over 30, left-handed winger is exactly what we have plenty of. My point was that if a team won't offer the Flames what they want in return for Bouwmeester, then keeping him is fine as well.

Lots of teams will have to shed salary if the cap goes down so definitely not the only team in this boat and they could wait and see what happens

Or they could be proactive and try to shed some salary with JBO will the market is thinnier and hopefully get a more premium price for him at this time

Pretty big gamble though considering how many minutes he logs for the Flames

I guess they are looking at Bouwmeester to be Stuart's replacement because he sure as hell is not going to control the pace of the game like Lidstrom did (then again nobody is). I figure Kronwall moves up as the slotted #1 guy on their blueline and Bouwmeester would be looked upon as the #2-3 guy on their depth chart.

Can't see the Wings moving Filppula though considering that he's their #2 C and they already lost Hudler to free agency. Filppula was centering Zetterberg and Hudler during the playoffs while Datsyuk was with Franzen and Bertuzzi. I figure Mikael Samuelsson will replace Hudler on that line and they will have Miller-Helm-Cleary as the third line with Abdelkader-Emmerton-Tootoo on the fourth line. If they move Filppula, that means Zetterberg moves back to C and that Cleary moves up to the 2nd line, which I can't see the Wings being comfortable with.

That is unless they think that Nyquist or Jarnkrok are ready to step in and replace Filppula as the #2 C to be paired with Zetterberg.

I think someone is in denial about the quality of his team. You act as if the Flames are in a position to turn down quality forwards and be picky. Franzen would instantly be the second best skater on that team and the Flames would be better wit him than without regardless of the perceived needs of the team.

I think Z remains mostly at C, would like to see him with Franzen, they have good chemistry. Then one of Nyquist/Cleary/Tatar/Samuelsson/Brunner (Babcock is high on him).

No more Franzen with Dats unless they actually start clicking. Bert to 3rd of 4th line where he belongs.

I don't think so. If anything it would boost Bouwmeester's reputation if a team like Detroit acquired him to patch up their losses.

I wouldn't have the same answer if the rumor was about Columbus for instance.

Jbo and Backlund for Filppula and a draft pick

It will take more than just Filppula to acquire Bouwmeester. Feaster holds all the cards. We're not looking to trade Bouwmeester, Detroit is desperate to acquire him.

Sounds good, we'll just take Tatar / Jankrok / NyQuil. Bunch of garbage players.

You can have Corey Emmerton and Jan Mursak. I want no part of Jay Bo.

can't see it being anyone like Franson or Filpulla

I'm thinking Kindl and Abdelkader + pick or prospect

Did Kronwall retire or something?

That is good only Tatar of who you listed is a real player.

Cleary, Quincey and Pulkkinen is about as high as I would offer.

I think it's hard to judge Bouws value in a trade simply because he has all the tools but the production just hasn't came in Calgary. If Filppula wasn't in a contract year then it'd be an easy trade to workout IMO. Since Val is in a contract year Detroit will have to add something else meaningful to make up for it.

Det- Bouw + Jackman
Cgy - Flip + Kindl

Thats where I would start.

Make sure you tell Ken Holland that, I'm sure he'll bring it up immediately when he calls up Feaster to try and pry away a defenseman who doesn't need to be moved.

Because feaster has proven to be such a "card shark" of a gm ...

He could have 45 cards and Holland could have 7 and beat him in a game of poker
