Mike Smith was also a good young goalie at the time backing up Marty Turco, for whatever reason he didn't work out in Tampa.

But yeah, Feaster sux at every trade. lololol
Both those trades were pretty brutal for Tampa... the Richards one especially...

Wonder what Michael Peca would think about Bouwmeester being called an elite shutdown defenseman

It's his offensive game to people look at and cringe; however, it's been generally discussed that Sutter didn't use him properly - if anyone can use him properly and develop his offensive potential, it's obviously going to be the Red Wings. I'm even keen to see how Hartley will use him; I think Bouw will surprise alot of people this year.
Ok thanks, I can see I didnt correct my post in time for your answer, I meant it would NOT be that big problem if he was unproductive offensively. The defense is more important (and overall game I guess).

Few comparisons around the same mins:

Dan Girardi:

211 hits, 185 blocked shots, 61 give-aways/31 take-aways

Francois Beauchemin:

154 hits, 194 blocked shots, 47 give-aways/30 take-aways

James Wisniewksi (over 82 games averaged):

85 hits, 126 blocked shots, 38 give-aways/27 take-aways

i have seen him play enough, like I said he doesn't excel at any one thing, so he doesn't get the attention others would. I thought from the start that Calgary was not the right place for him, no disrespect to Calgary, it just didn't make sense at the time when I heard that move.

A team would be lucky to have him, he needs a change, I would take him in Toronto in a heartbeat.

They have plenty of solid prospects and they're really the only assets the team can afford to lose if the Wings still plan on competing for the cup.

What about a deal like this:

Detroit:

Bouwmeester
Stempniak
3rd '13

Calgary:

Flippula
Nyquist
2nd '13

Just an idea!

I fail to see what Martin and Bouwmeester's relative skill levels have to do with me bringing up the pot and the kettle as it pertains to you insulting the intelligence of other posters.

But thank you for proving my point.

Nope. Nyquist has to stay if Fil is leaving and legit first-liner isn't coming back. Our top6 would be too bad.

Mike Peca played against Bouwmeester four or five times during his entire career and was a minus player during those games while Bouwmeester was a plus player. I think what Mike Peca has to say on the subject is as relevant as Mike Peca's broadcast career.

May I ask the source?

Not that I'm doubting the numbers, just interested.

Uhhh... no thanks. Filppula and Nyquist are both vital to the team's future, and the Wings are already traffic-jammed where bottom-six forwards are concerned.

No, and I hate Franzen. Franzen may be lazy and inconsistent but he still has more impact on the game than J-Bo does. The Wings are too weak, and have too many question marks at forward to move Mule or Flip for someone who isn't an elite impact player. The only thing im comfortable moving for him are picks/prospects.

A couple things, no one is suggesting Feaster is going to take Holland to the cleaners, but it is apparent that Bouwmeester's value is very high, or else he would of already been dealt. We are in no need whatsoever to "dump" Jbo. He is our top dman and he will only be dealt in a deal that makes for our club. I think given the reports that the Wings have been talking to the Flames and that no deal has been made yet shows that if any deal is made that it will be a fair deal for both teams. Also add to the fact that there are other teams that could really use him (ie. Philly, Nashville), we are in a good position to get what we want or else we will be more than happy to keep him.

What I would propose is this:

Deal A:

Bouwmeester, Backlund for Filppula and Quincey

Deal B:

Bouwmeester, Babchuk, Stajan for Filppula and Quincey

What? Franzen is an injury bag who has zero motivation and you think he is worth the current ironman who plays 26 minutes a night? You can keep him.
