Ryan Malone To The Leafs

What would it cost the Leafs to land him?

He's not really available. Why would Tampa trade him?

I'm sure if he is going from Tampa, it will be packaged for a top four defenseman.

Hedman - Brewer

Carle - Salo

Having someone to replace an injured Salo..

This. We don't have a lot of big physical forwards like Malone. There's no real reason for us to trade him right now.

If I'm not mistaken the leafs and tampa had a trade in place like 3 years ago but Malone had a No-Movement clause.

He wouldn't waive for Toronto.

He didn't look that good anyway last year. Also isn't his dad a scout or something?

Former Penguins head scout, now Tampa's head pro scout.

Didn't know he was the head scout. Knowledge is power.

There was never a trade, just a rumor. He wasn't asked to waive his NTC.

His dad if our head pro scout.

That depends on how many games you have actually watched him play. After coming back from injury he went on a tear and was almost a PPG over a 25 game stretch (22 in 24 or something like that). Factor in all the plays that don't get awarded with a point but very well lead to goals (hits, screens) he was one of our best forwards in the second half of the season - overshadowed only by Stamkos and Purcell.

Way to overreact. The first part of his reply was directed to Brownstache.

An equally good question would be.... why would the Leafs trade for him?

Kessel, Lupul, MacArthur, Kulemin, Van Riemsdyk -- all younger wingers on better contracts who are capable of scoring 20+ goals. Then you factor in Kadri, Frattin, Ashton, and the 2 of Connolly/McClement/Lombardi/Bozak that don't get the remaining 2 centre spots with Grabo and Steckel.

The wing is not a need for Toronto at this point in time. They've got a good combination of size, youth, two-way ability, and goalscoring. So there's really no point in even proposing trades for another winger. Toronto needs a shutdown dman, a #1 goaltender, and #1 centre.

To upgrade our forward group and make us bigger. He provides plenty of leadership and is accomplished in the defensive zone, and kills penalties.

We should not be content with our froward group, we need to upgrade it if possible at a reasonable price (no over payments).

So who do we trade to aquire malone from our roster cause tampa wants to compete and cant take a downgrade in there top six. I dont think the old staple of Macarthur and a second is gonna cut it so do you recommend that we trade frattin or Kadri or Kulemin. I understand you dont want to see the leafs get embarassed physically again this year but honestly it cant be at the expense of prospects weve allowed to develop for so long or roster players ie kulemin that we still very much need.

Honestly, we're big enough and our wingers are really not in need of upgrade. Sure, it would be nice to move MacArthur for Malone or something like that, but that just isn't realistic. Players get traded to teams that are in need of said players, because that team values that player higher than his existing team.

Malone doesn't fit any of our present needs, so there's little reason why we should value him higher than Tampa. Our needs in the forward group are obvious -- a #1 centre. We shouldn't overvalue any other types of players.
