If he's careful he should be okay and have a great career. Gionta is an inch taller and look at how he turned out. Polar opposites ones a passer ones a goalscorer i know.

He can get 80 pts and I bet you'll still say he's too small and want to get rid of him. amazed at our fanbase.
Gionta is built like a tank for a little guy and has very good speed..

He's no Bouillon, but Desharnais is pretty sturdy too.

Funny you should say that, I've always had that weird feeling that DD could develop somekind of meanstreak.

He has an outstanding shot.

You lost credibility with that comment.

Looked good today, skating didn't seem like a issue.

the skating issue is grossly overrated around here. He likes slow down the play.

signed: someone who watched 80+ games of him over the last 2 years.

I hope you are referring to Hudon, not DD.

No it's not overrated. I've seen him quite a bit (clearly not as much as you have - let's get that out of the way) and I was a fan of his early on. His skating is bad for his size.. BUT he works hard and he's going to improve it a lot. I'm sure of it.

Hudon or Desharnais because the person you quoted was referring to DD. Hudon seems to have a nice array of shots. Desharnais on the other hand doesn't shoot often for a reason.

Exactly, DD is a pest around of the net and can jump on the puck to score some garbage goals but the guy isnt using his shot from the slot for a good reason, he has a weak one and doesnt have a quick release, thats why I think he will become expectable quick enough.. Ideally, you need a center who can do both, especially on the PP, passing and shooting at a high level..

Well DD's wrist shot is pretty good. He just doesn't use it a lot. So EP is right either way.

So, is does he remind people of Giroux, or is the comparison absurd?

He's missing that extra gear to really get away from the pressure, or to blow through the defense. He had a partial breakaway today that could've been a true chance if he would have been faster.

Got to say I'm really impressed by him. I knew he was always thinking offense having seen him play a handful of times last year, but he's really doing good. And on both sides of the ice on top of it.

He was on two goals today on the PK, but both were due to a bad coverage by the D's behind him (on Zlobin's goal particularly).

Spott has a lot of confidence in Hudon having coached him at the U-18 last year, and you can see that gives Hudon the leash he needs to really exploit his talent. He hangs on the puck a little longer to open up passing lanes. I'd like to see him a bit more intense on the PK in his own zone but aside from that he's been great.

You just have to take in example Brendan Gallagher, skating is something you can improve, unlike hockey sense, or size. He needs improvement, you can't deny it.

It might be a bit pushed, he hasn't scored 100 pts in the 'Q yet, unlike Giroux in his draft year.

Re: His Shot

DD improved some major holes in his game just to get to the NHL. I am willing to bet he will put the same time and effort into plugging the current holes he has to remain successful now that he's here. He could be "figured out" by the league next season, or he could surprise us all once again. The guy is a warrior and dedicated like few other Habs are.

My bad!

I thought he was talking about Hudon. Either way he was still wrong as Desharnais now has plus speed as demonstrated by winning the faster skater competition. I don't believe that he is the fastest skater on the team as this contest is a ridiculous one but you have to be fast to win it.

Not absurd at all. Although like a previous poster mentioned, he has not put up the points total Giroux has, but in terms of facing adversity because of his size, its much along the lines of Giroux, St.Louis Desharnais.

The only thing Hudon has going for him is that he got the playing time to prove himself playing in the Q. Giroux, in his first year with Gatineau, got relatively low ice time with a substantial role on the penalty kill unit. Really, Giroux's work ethic and drive is what got him to where he's at today. Constantly played 1 age group above what he was supposed to play, and was arguably the best player on the ice 99% of the time.

I'm not sure about Hudon's role totally, but I believe he has gotten the proper guidance over the last couple years, but he hasn't been pushed enough to improve his weaknesses, skating. We will see over the next couple of years if he is able to improve himself, and cope with the adversity of being a smaller player.

Maybe in the hands/playmaking department, they are somewhat comparable, but giroux beats him in all categories as far as I'm concerned

Not only that, but they were down 3-1, and he scored a natural hatty with 3 mins left.

#Habs Charles Hudon notches the hat trick to bring Chicoutimi ahead, 3G, 1A tonight with less than 3 minutes left in the game.
