Certainly help with match-ups. Speed or size, or both. Now if Detroit could get Hanzel for the 2nd line... my god.

I would like to get him just so whenever he did something in the gameday thread I could do this.

He is a pretty good player too, but I have to admit my real motive.

went with Mrazek, goalies dont get a lot of love because theyre so hit or miss but he has accomplished a tonne in his junior career. Cant wait to see him in the AHL next season.

Wont complain with Sproul or XO at this point and I'll be voting for one of these 3 in the enxt 3 polls

Sproul, again.

I'm going to continue to complain that Sheahan was overranked. So there.

Went with Sproul. Something about Ouellet looking like a jack of all trades-master of none that doesn't sit overly well with me.

add Aubrey

I went with Pulkkinen. I like Sproul, Ouellet, and Mrazek, but I think that Pulkkinen has a higher upside and is closer to NHL ready when compared against those three.

My vote is for Sproul at this spot. But because this race is seemingly between Ouellet and Pulkkinen, and I think the former should be ranked ahead of the latter, I officially cast my ballet for Ouellet.

Andersson is nhl ready but definitely not worthy of a top 10 spot. He should be more around 12-15. His offensive upside lacks and while the same is for Sheahan, i think most would agree his level of impact at the NHL level looks like it might be very minimal.

Pulks without a doubt. Potentially the best scoring prospect in our system and just gets bashed due to "skating issues", which is an overly weak argument. Scoring and offensive instincts cannot be taught. skating can.

Oullett is a nice kid and prospect, but due to pulks higher-end potential, i'll take him anyday.

add Paterson, Aubry doesnt belong on here yet.

Andersson is as NHL-ready as he's going to get.

Problem is, he's only ready to play for the Isles or the Jets or the Jackets. He just doesn't bring anything new to the mix for the Wings.

Wasn't Pulkkinen the best player or at worst one of the best at this years prospect camp?

He's also put on a bunch of weight and is just under 200lbs now.

You clearly lean very heavily toward potential and upside and give little credit to NHL-readiness or how a player projects. Which is fine, but my approach to prospects is more balanced, so the "definites" you use above are not definites for me.

Andersson's upside is not high, but he is NHL-ready and good enough to be a 4th-line center for Detroit. That has value. And Babcock loves him, so he'll likely get good opportunities. Because of those factors, he should be in the top-10 in my book.

As for Pulkkinen, he's really over-rated around here. Given his size, his skating is poor by NHL standards. That's not bashing or a weak argument, that is reality. It will be exposed at the NHL level. His shot is over-rated as well, mostly because it's inaccurate. At best, he's a PP specialist. A poor man's Jiri Hudler.

Here are the reports on the top 3 in voting from this years development camp.

Quote:
Xavier Ouellet #54: Ups and downs. He came on in a big way during and after the scrimmage and he’s started to display the no-frills, no-fuss, no-muss, equally almost invisible to Rooba/Glendening in the puck-lugging defenseman’s style that garnered him a contract, but when Ouellet is not engaged or interested, and he’s not using his slick but not speedy skating and superb vision to make plays, fire off hard shots and shut down his opponents with positioning instead of physicality that he simply does not possess…

He becomes a defenseman who is an inch of height and ten pounds from being “small,” and sometimes he’s been very disinterested. He’s got to get more consistent, because the glimmers of Quebec League dominance he’s shown were indeed worth handing an entry-level contract to. He could be something special.
Quote:
Teemu Pulkkinen #62: I feel similarly about Teemu Pulkkinen’s YouTube fame. He is everything he’s been advised to be and more, his wrist shot, slap shot, one-timer, passing, vision, and even his reach despite his short stick are remarkable, and he’s a goal-scoring machine who does indeed remind me of Brett Hull, except that he doesn’t get bored.

That being said, he’s built like a classic European in that he’s bulked up in the shoulders and hips, but his core remains that of a teenager, and for all his professional experience in Finland, he hasn’t absolutely dominated in the SM-Liiga on a consistent basis. On the smaller rink, he’ll have fewer opportunities to razzle dazzle and he’s going to need to learn how to play against the biggest and strongest players with less time and space.
Quote:
Petr Mrazek #34: Sometimes it’s hard to read Petr because he’s so very easygoing and so very level-headed that it can be easily mistaken for cockiness, especially if you don’t know that he’s actually kind of shy. But Petr is Petr and he had a great day despite some serious fatigue and nearly pulling his groin doing the splits. Mrazek’s already learning to temper that over-athletic style by positioning himself better and not flailing around the net nearly as much. He doesn’t get turned around, his glove remains Hasek high but it’s not a liability, his blocker hand is great, his stick positioning is sound and he has an excellent poke check, he butterflies well, gets back up, doesn’t flop, keeps his torso upright whenever possible…He just needs to get started on what should be a successful professional career, and he needs to continue to bulk up so that he doesn’t tire as easily.

I am assuming these are from George Malik without you actually providing the source? You know the same guy that crushes Brendan Smith and thinks Brian Lashoff is our most ready prospect player.

There is a good chance if we asked him for rankings, Lashoff would be top 5 and Coetzee would crack the top 10.... Worth pointing out.

Probably from same reason that team Canada has Oulette over Sproul in Canada-Russian challenge.

Maybe he's more sure-fire prospect idk, I have Sproul and voted him here.

Sproul is 6'3, he's a right handed shot and a big time goal scorer from the point, imagine when he fills out and weigh in at 220-230lbs and hopefully starts punish people....
