Well, he did have his best statistical season in 08/09 (66gp, 4 G, 13 A, 17 pts) when Columbus was the 7th seed in the west. He was paired with Tyutin (on the 2nd pair?) 64% of his shifts at ES likely due to injuries to Klesla.

His junior and AHL teams both had success, Particularly the knights, so its not like he hasn't excelled in a winning environment, albeit at a lower level.

I think so long as your expectations of him are tempered (ie don't expect him to be guaranteed a spot beside Karlsson and score 30pts) he shouldn't really be included in the "has a lot to prove" category.

Edit: though I agree with your overall sentiment of not wanting to move Gonchar, as it would certainly move him into a position where he wouldn't be a proven commodity.

I don't care if Methot has 0 points.

His job is to play defense and flatten people.

I hope he is a good fit with Karlsson for exactly that reason.

This, offense isn't what we need from him.

ya that is more or less what i meant. Methot has proven to be a capable NHLer , but with lack of depth on D i think we need more then just capable. Obviously we will not know until the season starts and I hope he turns into a suitable season long top 4 replacement for Kuba( different styles , but equal in effectiveness and minutes played) but he still has to prove he can , if he cant cowen and Gonchar will have to play more then planned.

If he scores 0 points with Karlsson, he is the most horrible pro hockey player in the world. Hence, he should not play for the Senators.

Well Cowen will probably play more anyway. We need him to progress.

I have a very hard time believing that Methot will have any trouble replacing Kuba's contribution to the team.

He'll get points.

I just don't care how many.

He probably won't see much PP time, if any.

It all depends who he is paired up with.

i hope cowen takes a step forward this season! a sophomore slump is not what we need from him.. gonchar is probably playing his last season with us and phillips is 34 now... our young defensemen gotta step forward this season!!!!! so that murray doesn't feel the need to get a defenseman next summer

methot-karlsson
cowen-gonchar
phillips-lundin/boro/gryba/wiercoch

next season will be very different if cowen doesn't take a step forward and/or we don't sign someone to fill gonchar's spot! maybe wiercoch or borocop or even gryba??? we'll see

I don't see Jared Cowen having a poor season. I believe at this point, playing the style that Jared Cowen has adopted in being a shutdown defenseman, he will continue to become more and more effective these next few seasons. I hope people aren't expecting him to put up significantly higher numbers offensively these next few seasons because I see him becoming more of a defensive rock that occasionally contributes offensively. He'll eventually become the perfect balance next to EK65.

I really think another Phx-Ottawa could go along way. What about one of are forward prospects for Brandon Gormley thats a pretty solid young top 4... 2 shutdown 2 puck movers ...Im not saying that would be lineup for next year but def be the future top 4

Cowen- Karlsson
Gormley Gonchar then Ceci
Methot- Boro/Wie/Gybra/Blood/Claes..etc

Cowen and Gonch have chemistry. Don't break them up.

I know he's not in the long term plans, but it worked. Why not keep it going?

We can worry about the Cowen - EK era in 2013-2014.

With Phillips and Methot on the left side for the next 2 years at least, we'll need Cowen to play more of an offensive role. He'll probably get a lot of opportunity to get 2nd unit PP time, so I'd hope that he could hit 25-30 points in that role.

It's an agreement made by people who agree on something collectively.

Collective bargaining is a process of voluntary negotiation between employers and workers' organizations (generally trade unions) aimed at reaching agreements which regulate working conditions

% of revenue going to the players versus the amount staying with the owners.

Stuff related to player salaries, contract limitations.

Basically the owners are saying that running the teams cost too much and they want to make up the money by taking stuff away from the players.

It's a much more interesting dynamic than last time in 04: back then the players were easy to identify as the main problem makers (not that the owners were angels) but this time around it's much more nuanced.
