Brewer is the counterpart to Marc-Andre Bergeron. While Bergeron is used predominantly in offensive situations where he can be useful while minimizing his defensive failings, Brewer plays the defensive shifts. The combination of Brewer and Bergeron is essentially the equivalent of on all star level defenceman except that it takes two roster spots.
lulz

I'd toss the article for mentioning that, in the writer's opinion, Boucher has done a good job of getting the best out of both players. Maybe Bergeron, but getting crap out of **** is still crap.

Not to mention that no matter the number of players it takes to create a Frankenstein all-star defenseman, if it's not one guy, it's not an all-star defenseman.

Zdeno Chara is the exception that proves the rule, but he's more of a literal Frankenstein monster, having been stitched together from other 'forgotten' smaller defensemen.

Anyone remember Bruno St. Jacques? He's a part of Chara now.

I don't know where you saw this, but even if SY offered that Malone wouldn't waive his NTC

I feel better about our D and our G but less confident about our O.

Brown, Connolly and Purcell are going to have to play big this year - especially if we get injured.

First time the Heatley crazy rumor and now this: #TBLightning and #Coyotes have been talking about a trade involving defensemen Keith Yandle. No trade offer on the table as of now

https://twitter.com/NHL_Trade/status/233333080474144768

Boring off-season.

Boring off-season.

Now THIS Id be on board with as long as no one named Stamkos/Hedman/St Louis going the other way. Yandle coming in would be amazing haha.

"Yandle on the market" has been rumored for a while now (it started around the draft I think). So there should be something to it. We don't make good trading partners, though:

Phoenix probably wants a (proven) #1-2C in return. Stammer and Vinny aren't going anywhere for various reasons (we don't want them to, they don't want to, PHX doesn't want the salary).

I could see us part with some picks and a blue chip prospect. But I'm not sure that's what Phoenix is looking for in return for ripping another (big) hole in their lineup...

Select the best 4th line from these options.

Pyatt 5'11" 1way contract
Labrie 6'3" 2w
Thompson 6'0" 1w
Hall 6'2" 1w
Wilson 6'1" 1w
Crombeen 6'2" 1w
Tyrell 5'10" 1w
Wyman 6'2" 2w

Pyatt - Thompson - Crombeen

But my guess is at least one of them will be on the 3rd line (Pyatt?).

So the competition for a 2w and two 3w spots is between
Pouliot
Brown
Connolly
Conacher
Killorn
Pyatt
Thompson

The competition for the 3c spot is
Pyatt
Thompson
Killorn
Johnson
Wilson

The competition for the 4th line spots is
Pyatt
Labrie
Thompson
Hall
Wilson
Crombeen
Tyrell
Wyman

If both Brown and Conacher win spots, I think the team would compensate by favoring bigger guys with the other spots, which would be good news for Wyman and Hall.

Have you guys noticed the off season is really long, maybe the new cba can stretch the season by a month, add a few days off between games or something.

I wonder what Conachers chances are. Brown and Connolly will make that decision hard for team. The team is building a nice prospect pool. I only see that continuing with SFY at helm.

I'm hoping Conacher makes it - real good camp last year and amazing first full pro season. If he and Brown both make it, I assume it means Connolly goes down for AHL seasoning.

Am I the only one thinking we see a motivated amped up, ready to go Connolly this training camp?

It's not just the offseason training, he knows whats coming up behind him. He won't want to lose his NHL spot and he knows he'll have to keep it up for an entire season. I think we see a Connolly who's ready to battle for his spot, and win it.

I didn't know, where I can posted this, but I have a very good Lightning fan site but, of course, in Czech language. So, if you have an interest to read that page, you must use Google Translator

Red Wings fan coming in peace here, what are the chances Barberio makes the big club this year? He's had an amazing run in the AHL, has some real offensive tools.

I dont know. Hes got a little competition in front of him for that last spot. Gudas and Aulie are in the mix too. Ill say this that he was impressive in the AHL last year and is probably ready to come up to the big team. He will just have a little competition if hes actually going to. Which isnt a bad thing if your TB fans. SFY did a nice job filling in the D this summer when there really wasnt much out there. Because of that these on the bubble guys will have to push that much harder to make the big club. As it should be.
