According to the report, the Red Wings stepped up their interest in Bouwmeester after learning the Philadelphia Flyers could make an offer in the wake of losing rearguard Andrej Meszaros all of next season with a torn Achilles tendon.
The St. Louis Blues, who are seeking a sidekick for star-in-the-making Alex Pietrangelo, were linked to the smooth-skating defenceman earlier this summer.
Same goes for the Philadelphia Flyers, especially after the Nashville Predators matched a monster offer-sheet that restricted free-agent Shea Weber inked in the City of Brotherly Love.
In fact, the Predators, who couldn’t convince Ryan Suter to choose the Music City over his home state of Minnesota, have also been mentioned as a possible suitor for the 6-foot-4, 212-lb. Bouwmeester.
Several alleged ‘insiders’ are adding other teams to the equation.
Looks like the Flames are about to hit the mother load.
Unless the Flames get one or more D back, wouldn't Bouwmeester departure leave a huge hole on their blueline (regardless of your opinion of him - he does eat a ton of minutes)?

And unless the Flames can become a better team by trading him away, they should keep him.
There is no news out there yet of Mez missing the whole season is there? These injuries can be mid-term to long-term, to long-long-term, wait and see approach.
And while I don't doubt that J-Bo is getting offers, your source is two Calgary based media outlets. Take the substance with a grain of salt. In the middle of the summer you have to write something to appease us hockey-crazed fans who are itchin' for the season to start.

Yes. We have Gio and then there is a pretty big drop off in terms of defensive ability. Butler is good but is best suited as a 2nd pairing; shouldn't be considered an option against top players.
Good to see the Calgary Herald jumping in with TSN using a terrible mlive article as their source.
Trade talks are heating up says random blogger!
I personally like how:
"The Red Wings are concerned Philadelphia will make a big pitch for Bouwmeester after Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn Achilles tendon that will sideline for the season."
Has now become:

If this game of telephone keeps going soon will start seeing reports of Z being offered for Jbo.
If the Flames aren't rebuilding (which they don't look like they are), I don't understand why they would deal Bouwmeester. It's not like they have a deep pipeline of defense prospects beyond Brodie.

Because Feaster knows that the Flames need to add more good young pieces to the system, Bouwmeester is the best way of doing that without dismantling the team.

Our biggest need is at centre, but losing Bouwmeester's 25 minutes a night will hurt.
People are going to be mildly surprised by both how much the Flames get in a trade and how well Bouwmeester plays for another team if he does get dealt. I'm not saying he's going to garner the Flames a bunch of blue-chip studs but if you don't think GM's are willing to give up a few valuable assets for a 25 minute-per-night defenseman, then I think you are deluding yourself. Bouwmeester's contract is not the albatross it once was, both because the term is short at this point and because other defensemen are now making huge sums as well.
Furthermore, Bouwmeester is still young enough and still in prime physical condition to the extent that I think other organizations may think they can bring something "more" out of his game - and in the right place, it would not surprise me at all if he suddenly becomes more highly tought of on HF.

To fill other holes. If Bouwmeester gets you a top-6 center and a body to slot into the top-4 D then they should do it. They may have to add a little to Bouwmeester to get the pieces they want though
Where in that piece does it say the Flyers made an offer for Bouwmeester, let alone "stepped up" their offer? All it does is speculate that with Meszaros going down, the Flyers might be interested.
Its worth noting that alleged interest does not equal "hitting the mother load".
Frankly, I think there are a whole lot more people around here that think Bouwmeester is some sort of worthess salary dump that canbe had for pennies on the dolar than there are Flames fans deluded into thinking they are getting a king's ransom back.
