Exactly. There were quite a few teams who "showed interest" in Rick Nash over the course of the past year and look what he fetched.

Dennis Wideman played 24 minutes per game at last season. You already have the replacement for Bouwmeester.

listening to Calgary Sports radio 960 this morning, they said that rumours at the draft were that Feaster was asking for a late first and a prospect. There was no interest in JBo at that price.

They have consistently said his value is a 2nd round pick and a prospect (not elite prospect). As these guys have salaries paid by the Flames, I think they are closer to what the Flames are thinking than some random bloggers.

The GM most likely to panic is Feaster because the new CBA might force teams to get to a lower team cap. A bunch of teams might be having fire sales or huge buyouts for some expensive players. The guys on the radio said that the return right now might be a lot higher than it will be when a new CBA is signed.

What would it realistically take to get him?

Get real buddy. If there is a cap drop, it's not going to be too significant. Flames have plenty of room to work with right now.

Not to mention there will likely be amnesty buyouts if that happens, if not a complete rollback on all contracts.

It really bothers me when people use this as an example to why Bouwmeester is important. What does it matter if he plays a couple of extra minutes a game more then the typical top pairing dman. Sure that's nice but it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Calgary already has players in place to takeover the majority of extra minutes he plays without a drop in production and efficiency.

It's strange to see people want to badly hold on to a player whose greatest asset is that he plays less than 10% more per game than the average player in his position.

If he goes to the Wings... Would it be the playoff version of the immovable object meeting the iressistible force?

The hockey gods will just have a lockout until Detroit trades Bouwmeester.

Thats what I was wondering. Why are they trying to get rid of him? Shed salary? His contract ending in a couple of years? The lack of D out there that may increase his value? I guess the Flames arnt really contenders right now.

That's hogwash. Feaster didn't acquire Wideman until prior to July 1st, why would he have been looking to deal Bouwmeester at the draft? And a lot has changed since then. All the top UFA d-men (Suter, Wideman, Carle, etc.) are off the market.

The teams left out in the cold (Red Wings, Flyers, Blues, Predators, etc.) not Feaster, are now all starting to panic.

We're not, but teams keep calling. Feaster would be crazy not to listen, esp. knowing how desperate they are getting.

I like the idea of JBo in red and white next season, but I don't want to see our best prospects leave. If Filppula or Helm gets moved in this, it'll kill me. I could see DET parting with one or two of the following and a 2nd rounder in the deal: Emmerton, Mursak, Jurco, Tatar, Nyquist or Pulkkinen.

Dream come true: fit Samuelsson into this deal. Haha - not gonna happen though.

Stepped up their offer? Does that mean it included the Flames choice of Pavel Brendl or Nik Zherdev, and an autographed lithograph of the Legion of Doom?

While i don't believe that JBo get's traded since i doubt nobody is willing to offer as much as Flames are expecting but oh boy would he crash and burn in Philly

Some speculation I saw on twitter yesterday.

Quote:
NHL-Insider @NHL_Insider_ 1d
Also, heard #Flyers are seriously considering #Boumeester. They believe he is best defenseman available to fit their need.
Quote:
This has made #Redwings nervous as they have periodically been in talks with #Flames over the last 2 weeks. #Flyers have contacted #Flames and want to prepare an offer for him. Before they do that, #Flames will approach #Boumeester and ask for a list of teams he'd go to within next 48 hrs.

What do you guys think?

The salary cap potentially going down will have little impact to do with Bouwmeester. Stajan and Babchuk would easily be moved before him to clear room. Thats 6 million in cap savings right there.

Interesting if true, but we have no way of knowing, no legit sources have really said anything. All we can really do it wait and see.

I hope Philly gets Bouwmeester. I swear half of Sid's highlight goals are against him.

Honestly, I think Bouw is going to shine wherever he ends up. (that includes if he stays here)

I have a feeling the right coach can turn his game way up.

I would even take it a step further. I would wait until the start of training camp, that's when we'll start to see the real fireworks.
