The higher you are in the section, the 'closer' it will feel. It will definitely be an improvement...UNTIL they add those ****ing bridges.

Why are they impossible to purchase?

They don't have a limited view. The renovation is changing it.

Quote:
Neil Best writes in Newsday that the upper bowl seats are ten feet closer to the playing surface and 17 degrees steeper.

He notes “the concourse that used to ring the arena on the inside is gone, meaning no more obstructions for fans seated toward the front of the upper bowl.”

That quote you posted is referring to the regular upper bowl. The 400 "Blue Seats" are very limited view, especially rows 4,5,6,7.

True if you are trying to get them for season tickets, but I have a feeling you'll be able to get single game tickets up there pretty easy, especially through the secondary market. I can't imagine tickets up there having a great resale value when people see the view.

Maybe I'm wrong though, just an opinion.

Yup, they will have the same exact obstructions the old 400's did since they're in the same spot.

As a loyal New York Rangers season ticket holder, we are excited to provide you with an update on the historic Transformation of Madison Square Garden. As you know, the Arena is currently closed for the second of three consecutive off-season shutdowns to complete work on this comprehensive project. Every day more than 1,000 construction workers are working around the clock to get the building ready to re-open in the fall, and all work is progressing as planned and on schedule. We are extremely proud of the results of the first phase of the Transformation, and believe the second and third phases will continue to deliver more exciting new amenities that will enhance your game experience at The Garden.
As part of the first phase of the Transformation last season you saw a completely transformed lower bowl of the Arena, with larger, more comfortable seating, a dramatically expanded Madison Concourse (6th Floor) with city views, additional restrooms and retail locations and a variety of new food offerings, including the debut of the MSG Signature Collection. The upper level of the Arena saw the addition of new open areas on the east and west side of the 8th floor and the West Balcony (10th floor), providing direct views into the Arena bowl, as well as new seating, walkways and concession stands. The Event Level Suites, Delta Sky360 Club and 1879 Club Presented by J.P. Morgan also debuted this past season.
When you return to The Garden this fall the seating configuration in the upper bowl of the Arena will be entirely transformed, offering more comfortable seats and significantly improved sightlines as the incline for the upper bowl will increase 17 degrees, moving fans seven to 10 feet, or nearly three rows, closer to the action. Additional new elements will include the new expanded Garden Concourse (8th Floor) with city views in select areas, more restrooms and retail locations, and new first-class food and beverage options. Final work will also be completed on the Madison Concourse (6th Floor), including the addition of an exciting homage to The Garden's more than 130 year history with a "Memorable Moments Every Day" visual retrospective and special exhibits celebrating the top "Defining Moments" at MSG.
The second phase of the Transformation will also include 58 new Madison Suites that will open throughout the 2012-13 season and the Madison Club, both located on the 7th floor approximately 23 rows up. The Madison Club is a new all-inclusive, membership-only club that will include tickets to Knicks, Rangers, college basketball, boxing, tennis and all other sports events held at The Garden.
Similar to last season, work will continue on the Garden Concourse throughout the 2012-13 season. Upon the initial opening of the building, various amenities in the upper bowl areas, including restrooms and food options, will be temporarily unavailable. Amenities will be phased in during the first few months of the season and will be supplemented with temporary stands everywhere possible. Once fully complete, the upper levels of the building will include significantly more amenities than in the past, including more than 30% additional food and beverage options and 60% more restrooms.
Click here to check out construction photos and renderings of all the new spaces that will be unveiled this fall, along with a timeline of the Transformation project and video features.
More updates will be forthcoming as we get closer to the start of the season. In the meantime, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact your dedicated experience team at 212-465-6050.
Once again, thank you for your continued support and commitment to the Rangers family. We look forward to seeing you at The World's Most Famous Arena this fall.
Let's Go Rangers!

So in some spots (presumably the first row) they are claiming the seats are moving as little as 7 feet forward. Still don't see it...but we're getting closer. lol

I can't see how the first row is closer. The upper rows are clearly closer to the ice, but the lower rows start in almost the exact same spot, so it's impossible for it to get much closer.

they dont start in the same spot, not even close.. they're probably 7 feet closer. the first row is directly above where the railing for the back of the 200's was. its the width of the walkway closer, which is probably about 7 feet.

Im still a blue seater and happy about it...I wouldnt be happy if i was not in the second row lol, but cant be 47 bucks a ticket on the side the rangers shoot twice on, I love it. Hoping the seats are actually blue and not that dark navy that looks black. They are the same color as the rest on the virtual venue thing. Oh well..we shall see. My only gripe is that they should make it glass in front like the west balcony, would create no obstructions. Will definitely find someone to bring it up to for the third phase.

I originally thought that was going to be the plan. But if you look at the photos you will see that is not the case. They have added 2 rows of seating for the mid level luxury luxury boxes behind the back of the 200s. The new upper bowl will be above and behind those seats, so row 1 will not be moving forward by the entire distance of the old walkway.

The change in the angle is what makes this better. It is less likely for people in front of you to block your view.

no they didnt. the last rows of the old 200's are where those new seats for the luxury boxes will be. look again. where the walkways were will be part of the suite

just to show you what I mean, here is some visual evidence. look at the portal in all 3 pictures. you'll see that as time goes on, they rip out the seats, and are building up the 2 rows of suite seating into the 3 rows where the old 200's were. the first row of the new 200's are directly over where the walkway used to be, as is the case with the new seating they put in on the ends last summer.

So are they redoing the floor this year to hopefully make the ice better?

Supposedly that is next year though that's only been said in this thread. Haven't seen that anywhere officially from MSG or any news outlets.
