Oh yeah...I don't watch the Sens 82 times a year. I have no idea how good he is.

If you think Sens fans are overrating Cowen, tough luck. We love him and he's Karlsson's future partner for the next decade.

Ottawa's not gonna trade a young, big, tough, defensive d for anything short of a massive over payment. Especially since after they trade Cowen they're gonna be looking for a guy like Cowen...proposals in here are garbage.

I don't think its overrating him its more so that he fills a role we desperately needed to fill and that's why he is so valuable to us.

I've said it countless times but IMO Cowen will be more important to the Sens than Karlsson will be in the future.

I'd ask for a 2013 1st, a top 6 forward and a top 4 defenseman from any team if I was trading Cowen.

I'd take that deal and run. Thats a great trade for Ottawa and Philly. They get a great goalie who is pretty close/if not already NHL ready. They replace Cobourn and get younger and cheaper and Regin is good just needs to be surrounded with talent. They may win the trade in the long run but the return for Ottawa is sick. Cout's who is NHL ready and a top6 player and Coubourn who is top 4.

I'd do this deal.

Yes, that I can agree with. He fills a much-needed role on the Senators, and he has the potential to grow. It would not make sense for them to trade him. He is more valuable to the Senators than most other teams, and teams usually like to hang onto their young players regardless.

However, many of the proposals on here are 100% ridiculous.

Do the unenlightened nincompoops posting in this thread realize that the only weakness in the Ottawa Senators Top 2/3 Farm System is the lack of a top pairing shut down defenceman? Well coinkidink, that's what Cowen has shown that he can do.

He's overrated like Leafs fans overrate Gardiner, Rangers fans overrate Kreider, or Flyers fan overrate Couturier. Their value to the teams, specifically their potential, far exceeds the value gained in a trade.

I get so tired of how every 'value of' thread degenerates into a Canucks fans vs the world 'what's Luongo really worth' argument! MG needs to find the guy a new home already and let life move on.

As for Cowan, he's worth way more to Sens than to anyone else except maybe Edmonton, I doubt he gets moved. Top prospect and top 4 D would be the asking price I bet.

Is he as overhyped as Rundblad? Because we all saw what Rundblad got.

Jared Cowen's asking price would be steep.

It would be a NHL ready Top 4 Defenceman + another Top Prospect (preferably defenceman)

Actually not too bad of a proposal IMO, but at this point Cowen is exactly what the Sens need right now, so I'll still pass. The value is there though.

Rundblad was a mystery Swede who had never played a game in the NHL.

And by the way, he "got" a 1B Center who turned around the Senators 2011-2012 season.

What? No thanks. I love Cowen but I wouldn't do this trade at all. We're gonna be using Bryz for the next 5+ years so no point in really bringing in a young goalie to be behind him that long. And then we'd be downgrading our defense this year and our offense when we're trying to be a cup contender. This doesn't really make much sense for us. But I love Cowen and think he will be an absolute stud in a few years.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. But HFSens made me and the rest of HF believe that the "mystery swede" was the next Lidstrom from the hype.
Almost all Sens fans thought you guys got fleeced 100000% based on the Sens trade thread.

So that's why I am skeptical about this Cowen character.

Actually, while he had been hyped up beyond belief the off-season before, he had played 24 games for the Senators when he was traded.

And Turris is not a 1B center. Lol. Not even close.

And it was Rundblad + 2nd round pick, and Turris was forcing himself out of Phoenix.

If I'm Ottawa I'm looking for every reason not to move this guy. Kill to have him on Vancouver.

Fair enough, but Cowen's had a full year in the pros now for everyone to see - and he's really sturdy. Rundblad absolutely was a mystery - although a lot of Sens fans, me included, thought he'd be awesome right away. Still think he'll be quite good, but he needed much more seasoning that we initially thought.

One was hyped with 0 games of NHL experience, while the other has 90.

Turris is 22 years old, how the heck do you know if he'll be a 1B center or not?

You're not being a jerk. And you were right that HFSens made Rundblad 10000% whatever.

But Cowen has played in the NHL. He's set foot on North American ice. He's already proven himself as a useful shutdown defenceman.

And to that Whit whatever guy, you're only making my point more obvious. Rundblad was "meh" in his first 24 games in Ottawa. Senators fans realized that he was either going through a major adjustment phase, or he wasn't what he was promised to be. I think he's still going to be a #2/3 defenceman by the way.

And yes, Turris can certainly be a 1B center. If you watched the Sens this year, you'd realize that he's certainly a #2 Center at the moment, and his improvement throughout the year playing alongside Daniel Alfredsson was remarkable. Turris is already a legit #2 C, there's no reason to think at 22 he can't become a 1B.

Not true. He has the tools. Its more than just points. If he was on the 1st PP unit instead of the leftovers(second unit), he'd have close to 40 points.

That being said, I like him more as a elite 2C in the near future.

I agree that the Rundblad hype was unbearable, but Cowen is nothing like him. He needs to refine his game a bit in terms of decision making since he got out of position to make hits that led to key GA in the Rangers series. He was a rookie however and his physical tools make any coach salivate with the though of him patrolling a blue line for 25 mins a game.
