Siemens is a few years away and Elliot is a right handed shot offensive defenseman. Most immediate need for the Avs is a LH defenseman to play with Johnson.
While it would help Avs with the problem of having too many good centers, I think Avs have given up too many draft picks in the past couple of years to go through with this deal.
FYI he put up 79 points the year after his new contract. His goal scoring number has been consistent, he hasn't had a consistent good winger ever since Stewart injured his hand in a fight and was never the same again.
Clark MacArthur has put up similar numbers to Stastny in goal scoring coming off two back to back 20+ goal seasons

They have 8 picks in the 2013 draft and they'd be getting one in return. Shouldn't be a problem from that standpoint.

2 out of his 6 seasons. Stastny has scored 20 goals every season(except the one where he was injured but he would've easily hit 20 goals that year) Not to mention Stastny has never been about goals, he's a playmaker that needs players to finish his passes.
I don't really see how it's sad, I was just going off relative need/want for both teams. Leafs want a guy that can be a true 1st line center and it seems that Stastny would fit that bill. Once/if O'Reilly is signed, they have their top 2 centers locked and what would they need after that? Maybe a guy like Bozak who can play a good 3rd line role for them. And they don't have great depth on LW while the leafs are jammed on the wings and acquired a LW already. So MacArthur is traded there for that reason. I threw in a cond. pick just because I didn't know what else to add going to COL but I knew it wasn't enough yet. Maybe adding a guy like Komisarek there would be a better idea.
The problem is this: It's a lot easier to get 2nd/3rd line secondary scoring wingers and 3rd line centers than it is to get 1st line talent.
Leafs could use some grit on their wings and a stay at home dman correct? How about Gleason and Larose for Kessel then?
And lol at the idea of adding Komisarek being a good idea.
If you want top line talent, offer top line talent back.
The OP of this thread (not sure how to link single posts) should be stickied on the Leafs board.. or even this board, since this is where most of them seem to hang out.
To Col:
Clarke MacArthur
Tyler Bozak
Maybe a conditional pick here to sweeten the pot
This has probably been proposed or at least something similar so if it has, I apologize. I've heard Stastny's name a lot as far as leaving the Avs.
It would give the leafs a centre that can play on the first line (even though I'm sure Bozak would do a good job) and it gives the Avs Bozak who can play under Duchene and O'Reilly plus a left winger which is a position they could use some depth on who could be interchangeable with Jamie McGinn (or whoever else) on either the 2nd or 3rd line.
By all means, keep your superstars. Yes, those guys are great yet they are in every trade proposal. Must be coincidence...yes, that's what it is.
I love the reasoning that Stastny should be available cheaply BECAUSE the Avs already have Duchene & O'Reilly.
It's like a guy who owns 4 yachts...'hey, I might be able to buy one for 50k...he DOES have 4 of them!'.
LOL! I was thinking the same thing. My neighbour has two great cars in his driveway. Think I'll see if I can take the Porsche of his hands for a couple of grand.
