Can't imagine Flames fans will be too excited about a J-Bo deal centered around Matt Read as the primary piece (since his wingman Mezsaros is hurt).

As a neutral party (Sabres fan), who would like to see Calgary succeed again rather than being in this rut of mediocrity, I think trading J-Bo could be a good first step to a rebuild that needs to happen. Trading Bouwmeester to Detroit for a couple of youngsters in their strong prospect stable would be a wise move in the long-term. Then move Kipper, Then get a big haul of prospects/picks for Iggy. By then, the tank should be on, and hopefully Calgary can net one of MacKinnon, Jones, Monahan, or one of the other top players in the draft.

Unfortunately, I doubt Feaster is thinking like this.

They have consistently said his value is a 2nd round pick and a prospect (not elite prospect). As these guys have salaries paid by the Flames, I think they are closer to what the Flames are thinking than some random bloggers.

The GM most likely to panic is Feaster because the new CBA might force teams to get to a lower team cap. A bunch of teams might be having fire sales or huge buyouts for some expensive players. The guys on the radio said that the return right now might be a lot higher than it will be when a new CBA is signed.
If this is the truth I have no problems offering a second and a prospect for him. That would be a great deal for any team acquiring him. Jbo takes a ton of **** on these boards, and yes he has not lived up to expectations, but he could be very valuable to the Flyers. He will give Kimmo time to rest and eat a ton of minutes that otherwise Kimmo would be logging.

Also if there is one place JBo could find his offensive game again, it's in the Flyers high paced, high octane system.

Emphasis mine. Feaster is just a muppett.

As a Pens fan, I'd love to see Bouwmeester in Philly. A natural disaster waiting to happen...

Pens fans in this thread are seriously underrating JBo. He's not that bad of a player.

Getting good value back for Bouwmeester, Kipper, Iginla, Tanguay, etc in the next 1-2 years will give Calgary a drastically better looking future in 2-3 years than if they just held onto those guys.
They're not going to win with this current group, and given the age structure of the core guys, they don't have enough time to build around them anymore. Their time is out in Calgary IMO, at least if they want to do whats best for the team longterm.
Unforunately, this makes too much sense.. and they continue to hold onto these guys as their value declines and hand out ridiculous contracts to mediocre FAs

Which one? We can not afford to trade another defender, and if we trade another forward we will have some depth problems. If the price really is somewhere around a 2nd and a prospect, then it would really make sense for the Flyers.

Brayden.

Calgary needs a 2nd line center.

You're right. The Flyers tried to trade for his rights when he was about to become UFA but he did not want to play here. I'm a Bouwmeester fan, but he is the type of player that would be raked over the coals by the fan base.

Wouldn't trade Brayden for Jaybo. Atleast not until we see what train wreck our defense will be this year, give em 20 games or so first.

Wings:

Bouwmeester, Stajan, and a 3rd.

Flames:

Filppula, Emmerton, and a 2nd.

Detroit get their top-pairing defenseman, a fourth-line center, and a 3rd in a deep draft.
Calgary gets their first-line center to play with Iggy and Cammy, a young prospect who could thrive in their system, and a 2nd in a deep draft that could be around 50.

Thoughts?

You can have Martin too if you want him. Make sure you play Bouwmeester and Martin on the same pairing against us

JBo certainly isn't a GREAT top pairing dman, but he is a decent one, and even decent top pairing dmen rarely get traded. Obviously quite a few teams will be interested, and with just 2 years left on his deal, this risk isn't that great if he doesn't work out.

I really don't get what the Flames are doing, though. They gave massive money to two not very good UFAs in Wideman and Hudler, that would suggest they're trying to win now. But then they let Olli Jokinen (the only top 6 center on the team) leave, and now they're looking to trade Bouwmeester. Wideman + Hudler in, Jokinen + Bouwmeester out = much worse team, unless the return for Bouwmeester is tremendous. I'd understand dealing Bouwmeester if they were rebuilding, but if they're re-build, why give all that money to Wideman/Hudler? It's very confusing.

J-Bo strikes me as the kind of guy who once the Flyers fans would get on his back, he'd say **** this and self-combust.

I seriously don't think he could handle playing in Philly.

Between him and Bryz, there would be lots of lulz there.

Yeah Jaybo will not get a player with the promise of Brayden Shenn.
