Should the Rangers trade Gaborik(Gartner style)?

Would you want Sather to get a couple durable pieces for Gaborik like Smith did with Gartner in '94?

(ahh summer threads!)

The Gartner trade was ridiculously lopsided.

Glenn Anderson was past his prime and was a UFA at season's end. He is the equivalence to Brendan Morrow of today perhaps. Would you trade Gaborik for Morrow?

Brilliant. Our problem this year was not enough primary scorers. We fixed that problem with Nash. Now let's go back to it.

Glenn Anderson is a Hall of Famer, a clutch playoff performer. Morrow wishes he could even shine his shoes

Gaborik isn't Gartner and Anderson (HOF'er or not) by the time we got him was pretty nearly washed up.

Lundqvist is better than Richter but this team doesn't have anyone nearly in the same category as Leetch or Messier. Trying to duplicate that team's success by trading away Gaborik for lesser pieces doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

No. I think the best time to move Gaborik is at the 2013 draft. Re-coup the lost 1st in the Nash trade and add another asset or two. Trading him during the season would be foolish.

not nearly washed up. Glenn Anderson was a bum when wr git him. Waste of a trade. Horrible deal then and remains horrible 18 years later.

I want Gaborik to win a Cup with us.

He's done a lot for the team. If he gets traded after winning a Cup, it wouldn't sting as much for me.

Why trade him for durability? Team has durability. Team lacked goal scorers. Now they have an abundance of that.

Now on the flip side, you got a player who will also command a hefty return. Big cap hit, but he's a 40 goal scorer. If Gabby was to be moved the only question is...what kind of return? Pat Kane type of return? Or...cap shedding type of return? A lesser player or two and a first rounder?

No. It makes no sense for us to trade him.

He was a grinder at best. Way past his prime years. That's was an idiotic trade at the time.

Exactly this. Next year might be a different story, though if we do keep him I'd like to sign him to an extension at a more manageable cap hit, if at all possible. We can have a 37 year old Gaborik, as long as he's not making $7.5M. He likes it here, we like him, we can deal with his injuries every now and then. NYR is just a good fit for Gabby and vice versa.

Nyet (little Russian lingo). Don't trade stars for 2 or 3 meh players + a pick. Makes nosense. Besides, with Nash and Kreider, Gabby can be even more of a weapon when he's not the only threat on the team the other team gears up to stop.

Find your depth through the draft - Rangers have done very well in this area, it's why they're getting so deep on the back end they can give up an Erixon for a Nash.

Hey guys, I have a brilliant idea! Now that we have 3 first line players on a team that has been starved for offense for years, let's trade one! Who's with me!?

And in addition to that, since we have 3 first pairing defensemen, we should trade one of them too!

You're sure you want to keep Lundqvist? He is 30 after all.

What does his jersey number have to do with it?
